Description

F'eb. 23, 1932. l.. BRUCKLER 1,846,835
ELBOW PROTECTOR Filed July 8, 1931 VVE/V TOI? Waff@ am Patented Feb. 23, 1932 PATENT. OFFICE UNITED STATES I. LEONARD BRUCKLER, OF FOX CHASE, PENNSYLVANIA ELBOW PROTECTOR Application led July 8, 1931. Serial. No. 549,341.
This invention relates to apparel protectors and more particularly to a device effective to prevent the elbow portions of automobile drivers clothing from injury and damage, the primary object being to provide an elbow protector which is anti-frictional with re ting free action of the arm at the elbow sec-- tion.
A further object is to provide 'a protector of the kind specified that positively safeguards the wearers coat sleeve in the region of the elbow from becoming shiny and prematurely worn.
With these ends in view, and such others as are incidental thereto or may later on appear, my invention essentially consists in the details of construction and combinations of elements hereinafter set forth and thereafter specifically designated in the subjoined claims.
I will now proceed to describe my invention in detail with reference to the accompanying sheet of illustrative drawings and the reference numerals appearing thereon.
In the drawings Figfl is a perspective view of my improved elbow protector in applied position.
Fig. 2 is a longitudinal section of the- In the main my novel elbow protectorl comprises companion components 6, 7 and 8 of leather and textile fabric, the former serving as the outer covering or body andy the latter as the inner or lining portlon of the device. As best appreciated from Fig. 4 the leather components 6 and 7 are duplicates -with notchings 9, for a purpose later on explained; while the component 8 includes securing bands or straps 10 attached thereto by stitching 11; or, said straps may, obviously, be made an integral part of the component 8. Opposed notchings l2 are provided medially of the .length of the component 8, while it is t0 be particularly remarked that the longitudinal edges 13 of said component are opposedly curved, whereas the corresponding 'edges of the components 6, 7 are medially curved at 14 but merge into substantially straight or tangential portions 15.
The textile fabricocomponents or lining elements 16, 17 and y18 are respectively similzir in contour to the components 6, 7 and8,
and hence need no further detailed explanav tion herein,.insofar as their form is con- In assembling the- leather components 6, 7 and 8, as well as the fabric parts 16, 17 and 18, thus far described, I inltially place thenotchings 9, k12 in registration andunite the respective components, or parts, along their adjoiningedges, as viewed "n Fig. 4, by sewing, as conventionally indicated at 19 in the other views. vert the united edges at 20, Fig. 5 and seam Ior hem them, as conventionally indicated 'at 21. As a result of the union of the parts, as just set forth, the medial leather component 8 becomes somewhat dished inwardly asbest understood from Figs. 1 and 2, while Subsequently I retrothe com onents 6 and 8l are similarly curved longitu inally of their median line on the sides united to ythe center or inner component" 8. Y
Centrally of the lining component l8'and to the inner face thereof I secure a pad made up of somewhat rectangular textile elements 22, 23 `and 24, Fig. 5, of-outwardly increasing dimensions relatively; said elements being united to the retroversions 20 of the liner elements 16, 17 by quilting stitches'25, Figs. 2 and 5, in au'obvious manner. Thus fit will be readily seen and understood, the I pad of elements 22-24 not only constitutes a cushion for the wearers elbow joint, but
` that it is secured free and movable with edges around the body of the device, as we as the edges of the straps, seamed together -at 27, in a manner similar l11o-fitting and securing a lining in a cap or coat whereupon the straps 10 are provided with conventional sna fasteners 28 whereby the vdevice can be a justed to either a thin or a fat arm with ease.
From the foregoing the simplicit of my novel elbow protector will be sel vident and its advantages obvious to those ac uainted with the art, henceit is thought urther ed and hemmed, a textile material lining ofdetailed explanation herein is not required.
Having thus described my invention what I claim is 1, An elbow protector for automobile drivers comprising an exterior covering lof leather embodying a central component having opposedly curved longitudinal edges and flanking components of'similar contour, the adjoining edges of said components being sewn together and hemmed, a textilefabric lining of corresponding contour and formation united to the covering around the erimetric edges, a pad comprising elements aving outwardly increasing dimensions secured to the lining at the elbowregion f ree of union with the covering, and means for detachably securing the device about the wearers arm. 2. An elbow protector' for .automobile drivers comprising ali/exterior covering of leather embodying acentral component hav- -v ing opposedly curved longitudinal edges and "co-extensive strap portions, flanking components having the medial edges reversely curved with tangentially-mergent portions, the adjoining edges of said components being sewn together and hemmed, a textile ma-- terial lining of corresponding contour and formation united to the covering around the perimetric edges of the components and strap extensions, a pad comprising elements having outwardly increasing dimensions quilted to the lining only at the elbow region, and means on t e strap extensions for detachably securing the device in use.
3. An elbow protector'V for automobile drivers comprising anexterior coverin of leather embodying a central component aving opposedly curved longitudinal edges and co-extcnsive` straps, anking components having themedial edges reversely curved v with substantially straight tangentiallyportions, notches in the respective comv onents for purposes of registration, the adjoining portions of said com onents being sewn together with the free e ges retrovertlnu
