Feb. 23, 1932. H. PALANJIAN CIGARETTE PACKAGE CONTAINER Filed June 7, 1950 INVENTQR ATTORNEY Patented Feb. 23, 1932 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE HENRY IPALANJIAN, OF NEW YORK, N. Y., ASSIGNOR ONE-HALF TO MIHRAN SERIJ'ANIAN, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
CIGARETTE PACKAGE CONTAINER Application filed June 7, 1930. Serial No. 459,629.
This invention relates to a soft package cigarette container and lighter.
Many brands of cigarettes are put up in soft packages. Cigarettes in such packages are light and convenient but there are certain disadvantages. The packages and cigarettes become crumpled in the pocket and after a few are removed the remaining cigarettes can not be as readily removed.
One of the objects of this invention is to provide a container for package cigarettes which will be light in weight. Another object of the invention is to provide a container that will preserve the package and cigarettes. Still another object of the invention is to provide a container that has embodied therewith a cigarette lighter.
Referring to the drawings:
Figure 1 is a view in front elevation with the lid raised.
Figure 2 is a view in side elevation.
Figure 3 is a sectional view along the line 3, 3, looking in the direction of the arrows.
In carrying out my invention, I propose to provide a container 1 having the walls 2 with cutout portions 3 to lighten the weight as well as to permit inspection of the package and for a better ornamental appearance. The bottom of the container 1 may also have a cutout portion. The lid 4 is solid and has hinged connections 5 to the back wall 2. Lid 4 is bent down and carries an extended tab 12 to engage opening 6 in front wall 2 as a spring latch. A spring 7 normally presses against lid 4 to actuate lid 4 when tab 8 is pressed. The cigarette lighter 9 is supported by lug 10 and held in position by ears 11. The latter may be integral with the side wall 2 and function as spring clamps to hold the lighter. The package of cigarettes with the top of the package torn ofi are inserted within container 1 and the lid 4 closed. When it is desired to use a cigarette, tab 8 is pressed causing lid 4 to spring open through the action of spring 7 enabling the user to withdraw a cigarette. Lid 4 is then closed and the lighter 9 is actuated to light the cigarette. The covering for the lighter wick may be made integral with lid 4 or as a part of the lighter portion.
It will thus be seen that I have invented a soft package cigarette container of light weight which will protect the cigarettes and have the convenience of a lighter a part therewith.
l/Vhat I claim is:
1. A cigarette package container comprising a body portion having the walls and bottom of said body portion with cutout portions, the top portion forming a lid hinged to said body portion, a spring to normally bear against said lid to open same, a bentover edge integral with said lid and having a tab, an opening in the front wall for said tab to engage therein to lock said lid in closed position against the pressure of said spring, said front wall having a surface extending into the cutout portion to permit of manual pressure to disengage the tab and permit automatic opening of the lid.
2. A cigarette package container comprising a body portion having the walls and bottom of said body portion with cutout portions, the front wall having a cutout portion to permit of manual movement by pressure of the front wall, a lid hinged to said body portion, a spring to normally bear against said lid to open same, a bentover edge integral with said lid and having a tab, an opening in the front wall for said tab to engage therein to lock said lid in closed position against the pressure of said spring, said spring opening said lid when manual pressure is exerted against the front wall to release said tab from said look, a lighter and means for removably securing said lighter to said body portion.
3. A cigarette package container comprising a body portion, said body portion formed of sheet material having cutout openings in each side, front and back to lighten the weight thereof, a cover hinged to said body portion, said cover having a turned over edge, said edge terminating centrally in a, tab, an
opening in the front Wall of the body portion 9 the tab carried by the lid from the opening in the front wall said spring bearing against said wall and lid to open said lid when said front wall is depressed.
5 Signed at New York in the county of New York and State of New York this 29th day of May, A. D. 1930.
HENRY PALANJIAN.
