JOHNSON COLLAPSIBLE BUCKET Filed 001:. ll, 1929 3 Sheets-Sheet Attorney Patented Feb. 2, 1932 i AMUND JOHNSON, OF EDEN, MINNESOTA COLLAPSIBLE BUCKET Application filed October 11, 1929. Serial No. 398,911.
The present invention relates to a bucket designed particularly for use in carrying or hauling potatoes, fruit, grain and the like and the prime object of the invention resides in the provision of a collapsible structure so that the same may be folded in a compact manner when not in use and stored away so as to take up little space.
Another very important object of the invention resides in the provision of a bucket of this nature which is simple in construction, inexpensive to manufacture, strong and durable, thoroughly efficient and reliable in use, and otherwise well adapted to the purpose for which it is designed.
With the above and numerous other objects in view as will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in certain novel features of construction, and: in the combination and arrangement of parts as will be hereinafter more fully described and claimed.
In the drawings: 7 I
Figure 1 is a perspective view, of the bucket embodying the features of myinvention,
Figure 2 is a vertical section therethrough,
Figure 3 is a similar section showing the bucket collapsed, P v
Figure 4 is a perspective view of the bottom frame,
Figure 5 is a perspective view of the plate to rest on the bottom plate, and
Figure 6 is a perspective view of one of the corner brackets for the lower frame.
Referring to the drawings in detail it will be seen .that letter A denotes generall a square frame with corner braces B attac ed thereto. Each brace B comprises a substantially triangular shaped plate 5 having a pair of flanges rising from adjacent edges thereof. The late 5 is secured under the corner of the rame so that the flanges extend from the outer side surfaces of the bars of the bottom frame.
top rectangular frame comprising a plurality of bars 7 secured together by L-shaped corners 8 which are provided with inwardly directed sockets 9. Canvas or other suitable collapsible material 10 is secured to the inner sides of the bars 7 and the outer sides of the frame 8 to form the side walls of the bucket and the side walls may thus be collapsed as is indicated in Figure 3.
The side wall canvas is preferably tacked or otherwise secured to the upper and lower frame. U-shaped bails 12 have trunnion ends rockable in the sockets-9 and are of such a size that they may be swung down into the bucket as indicated in dotted lines in Fig ure 2 or when the bucket is folded may be disposed one on top of the other as indicated 7 in Figure 3.
A screen panel 14 is secured on top of the frame A and this frame A has tabs 15 rising therefrom so that it may be raised upwardly if so desired when the bucket may be hanging up on a suitable support. An imperforated panel 16 is of such a size as to rest on the frame "A" when so desired. The screen panel is used alone when the bucket contains potatoes but the imperforated panel would be used when the bucket is to carry grain or grass seed and the like.
It is thought that the construction, utility and advantages of this invention will now be quite apparent to those skilled in this. art without a more detailed description thereof.
The present embodiment of the invention has been disclosed merly for the purposes of exemplification since in actual practice it attains the features of advantage enumerated as desirable in the statement of the invention and the above description.
It will be apparent that changes in the details of construction, and in the combination and arrangement of parts as will be hereinafter -more fully described and claimed, without departing from the spirit or scope of the invention as hereinafter claimed or sacrificing any of its advantages.
Having thus described my intention, what I claim as new is:
A bucket of the class described comprising a body having a rectangular top part, an angle shaped corner piece fastened to each corner of the top part, each corner piece having a socket on the inner edge of one limb thereof, and a pair of bails each having/the ends of its limbs bent to engage the sockets of a pair of corner pieces, each bail being of less width than the width of the bucket whereby the bails can be moved into the bucket.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature.
AMUND JOHNSON.
