Description

June 2, 1 931. A. RICHEBACH FOUNTAIN PEN HOLDER Filed Aug. 29.' 19:50
Patented June 2, 1931 UNITED STATES ALBERT REICHENBACH, F PFORZHEIM, GERMANY FOUNTAIN' PENHOLIDER Application iiled August 29, 1930, Serial No. 478,694, and in Germany March 31, 1930.
It has become known to arrange as ink reservoir for fountain pens a rubber bag in the hollow handle, so that this rubber bag can be compressed by means of a suitable de- L vice and thereby filled with ink, when the pen is being dipped into an ink pot.
Such a fountain pen presents the inconvenience, that it is necessary to di the pen into the inkstand to ll the same, t at, if the 'pen is not dipped deeply enough into the ink,
air is sucked into the bag, and this bag is in-` completely lilled. The rubber bag becomes leaky and after a certain time the fountain pen must be repaired.
1E It has been proposed, to arrange a reserv voir of glass interchangeably in the hollow handle of the fountain pen holder. Such ink reservoirs are sold filled but cannot be refilled and when the ink in the reservoir has been consumed, a new reservoir has to be inserted. As such reservoirs are not sold everywhere, it is sometimes impossible to procure such a reservoir without loss of time,
so that the fountain pen can then not be used.
'The fountain pen holder consists of a casing a, an ink duct piece b in the front end of the casing containing the nib c, and of a closing head d screwed into the rear end of the casing a.
An ink reservoir is interchangeably locafed in the Casin a. This ink reservoir is ccnposed of a rub r bag e, a metal sleeve f, an outflow tube g, and a pressure bar L with 5 a spring z'.
Vcombination with the casing, an ink duct The metal sleeve f'in which the rubber bag e is located is closed at the rear end and tapered at the front end. Between the outiiow tube g and the tapered portion ofthe metal sleeve f the end of the rubber bag e is klili clamped, so that a. good packing of this rubber bag and also a good seat for the outflow tube g are obtained. Themetal sleeve f has a portion f cut out, through which projects the rubber bag e. A bar l1, and a. blade spring 'i are inserted between the rubber bag and the metal sleeve and extend along the cut out portion f.
The front portion of the outflow tube g, which projects from the tapered end of the metal sleeve f, is accommodated in the ink duct piece b and tightly packed with the aid of a packing ring c. The metal sleeve f is pressed against the packing ring lc through the action of a spiral spring fm, accommodated in the hollow closing head d.
Ifthere is no ink left in the rubber bag, it is not necessary to interchange the rubber bag, but merely to ll the same. With this obJect in view the closing head al is unscrewed and the metal sleeve f removed from the casing. The rubber bag is then compressed on its entire length by means of the bar z and blade spring z', the latter being depressed with a iin er. The open end of the outow tube g is t en dipped into the ink in an ink pot and the blade spring z' and pressure A '\bar k released so that the ink is sucked into the rubber bag e. The sleeve f with the rubber bag filled with ink is then re-inserted into the casing a.
I claim 1. A fountain penholder, comprising in piece in the front end of said casing, a closing '90 head screwed into the rear end o f said casing, a metal sleeve tapered at the front end removably mounted in said casing, a rubber bag in said metal sleeve, and an outflow tube in the open end of said rubber bag and in the tapered end of said metal sleeve.
2. A fountain penholder as specified in claim 1, in which the metal sleeve containing the rubber bag has a piece cut out on one side so that the rubber bag is ble to be compressed.
claim 1, comprising 1n combination with the rubber bag and a. metal sleeve containing this rubber bag and out out on one side, a ressure bar extending between`said rubber ag and said metal sleeve along said cut out piece of said metal sleeve, and a blade spring on said pressure bar.
4. A fountain penholder as ciied in claim 1, in which the rubber bag is clam d between the wall of the tapered front en of the metal sleeve andthe outflow tube.
In testimon whereof I aiiix my signature.
AJZBERT REICHENBACH.
