Be it known that I, CLAEs WM. BOMAN, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of New York city, in the countyand State of New York, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Fountain-Pens, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure l is a longitudinal central section of the complete pen, 'and Fig. 2 is a view of the ink-reservoir detached from the handle or sheath by which it is inclosed.

In the drawings, A is the tubular sheath or pen-handle, which may be made of any suitable material, preferably hard rubber. At its front end it has an opening h of a shape and size to receive the feeder-plug B, which may be of any preferred construction. This feeder conducts the ink from the ink-reservoir to the pen C in the usual way, the penV being inserted and held between the feeder B and the front end of the handle A.

The ink-reservoir is shown atD. It is made 0f any proper material, preferably hard rubber, and is carried by and movable with the plug E, which is detachably secured to the rear end of the handle. The reservoir D is in the shape of a tube open at its front end and joined at its rear end to the plug E. I prefer to make the reservoir D and the plug E in one piece, as shown, and to have the plug screw into the rear end of the tubular handle A. The length of the reservoir D is such that when the plug E is screwed home in the handle the open front end of the reservoir will press tightly against a seatv a o within the handle, which when the front voir and forms a stopper therefor. Under Serial No. 654,819. (No model.)

I these conditions the only passage for the ink from the reservoir to the outside is through the central longitudinal opening in the stopper c, (which is a part of the opening 1),) where it meets the feeder B and by it is conducted t0 the pen.

The construction just described is simple, efficient, and inexpensive. The reservoir for filling purposes is removed from the rear of the pen, and there is no joint at the fr ont end of the handle through which ink can leak out and smear the fingers, as frequently happens when the joint between the plug which carries the reservoir and the handle is at or near the front end of the latter. The pen, as usual, is provided witha cap F,which fits upon and covers the pen proper when the latter is not in use, and can be removed from that position and fitted upon the rear end of the handle or the rear end of theplug E,which projects therefrom, when it is desired to use the pen.

Having now described my invention, what I claim herein as new and of my own invention, is as follows:

l. In combination with the handle and feeder, the plug E, closing and removable from the rear end of the handle, and thereservoir D, carried by said plug and adapted when the latter is in place to t closely to its front open end against a seat a within the handle surrounding the opening b therein, as and for the purposes hereinbefore shown and described.

2. The tubular handle formed at its front end with an opening b for reception of the feeder, a seat a and a neck or stopper c, in combination with the removable plug E closing the rear end of the handle, and the reservoir D carried by said plug, and fitting at its front end around the stopper c, and against the seat a, as and for the purposes hereinbefore set forth. f
