Description

UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICEo SAMUEL WEAVER, CE BUCHANAN, MICHIGAN.
IMPROVEMENT IN CHURN-POWERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 180,737, dated August 8, 1876 application filed April 19, 1876.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, SAMUEL WEAVER, of Buchanan, in the county of Berrien and State of Michigan, have invented a new and useful Machine for the Purpose of GhurningBntter, which machine is fully set forth in the following specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings.
The object of my invention is to rapidly form butter, in either a stone or Wooden churn, by the combination, in a churning-machine, of a weight attached to hook A, and the hanger B, by which the machine is suspended, as shown in the perspective view, Figure 1, ot' the accompanying drawing.
The machine is fully illustrated by Fig. 2 and Fig. 3. l
The churn is placed upon shelfE, the churndash Connecting with the pinion D. A Weight is attached to hook A. Oord O is Wound around cylinder a, Fig. 3, by means of ratchet F, Figs. 4 and 7. The three spur-wheels a b c have their bearings in frame H. Pawl G is to hold the machine in check when not in use.
As the Weight is attached, and the pawl lifted, the churn-dash is made to revolve at a high rate ofspeed, to be decreased or increased in proportion to the weight attached to the hook. As the hanger permits the machine to be elevated, sufficient length of cord may be obtained, so as to require but occasional Winding ofthe cylinder.
I claim as my invention- The combination, in a churning-machine, substantially as described, of' a hanger, or its equivalent, by which the churning-machine is elevated, with a Weight from which is derived the power or driving mechanism.
SAMUEL WEAVER.
