HOLDER 0F STRAPS OF SUSPENDERS AND SIMILAR-ARTICLES Filed on. e, 1930 WWW. r
IN VEN TOR.
ATTORNEY.
Patented May 5, 1931 9 UNITED STATES GOTTLIEB IE. ESSIG, OF PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA HOLDER OF STRAPS OF SUSEENDERS AND SIMILAR ARTICLES Application filed October 6, 1930. Serial No. 486,672.
It is a well known fact that where an article of apparel is provided with straps which go over the shoulders that if the wearer has to bend over the straps are liable to slide off the shoulders. This is especially true of a workman wearing overalls since, due to the bending of the body, the straps easily slide over the shoulders interfering with the movements of the workman.
It is the object of this invention to devise novel means which can be economically manufactured through which the straps of suspenders, overalls, or other articles of apparel will pass which will prevent these straps from sliding over the shoulders of the wearer.
With the above and other objects in view, as will hereinafter more clearly appear, my invention comprehends a novel construction and arrangement of a holder for retaining in place the straps of articles of apparel.
It further comprehends a novel holder which can be formed from a single strip of sheet material having a base portion torest on the shoulders and provided with inturned flanges to retain the straps in position and having the inner walls which engage the edges of the straps curved to facilitate the free movement of the straps and at the same time retain them in proper position upon the shoulders of the wearer.
Other novel features of construction and advantage will hereinafter more clearly appear in the detailed description and the appendedclaims.
For the purpose of illustrating the inven tion, I have shown in the accompanying drawings a typical embodiment of it, which, in practice, will give reliable and satisfactory results. It is, however, to be understood i that this embodiment is typical only and that the various instrumentalities of which my invention consists can be variously arranged and organized, and the invention is not limited to the precise arrangement and organization of these instrumentalities.
Figure 1 is a front elevation of a holder embodying my invention illustrated in strap retaining position on the shoulder of the wearer.
Figure 2 is a top plan view of the holder.
Figure 3 is an end elevation of the holder.
Figure 4 is a side elevation.
Similar numerals of reference indicate corresponding parts.
Referring to the drawings 1 designates a holder embodying my invention. The holder may be formed from any desired character of sheet material but is preferably formed from metal by a stamping, pressing, or forming operation so that so it can be very economically produced.
As illustrated the holder 1 is provided with a base or body portion 2 having the inturned flanges 3 and at opposite sides are inwardly curved at 4 so that the opening through the 5 holder, through which the strap 5 passes, is wider at each end, as indicated at 6, and has its least width intermediate its ends, as indicated at 7.
In the use of my novel holder the straps are inserted through the holder so that it lies beneath the flanges and it is then moved upwardly so that it rests upon the shoulder of the wearer. It will be apparent that in use of this novel holder it will rest in the hollow of the shoulder of the wearer and be retained therein and at the same time sufficient lateral movement of the straps will be provided due to the manner in which the inner side walls are curved, so that, the straps, can, so to 30 speak, pivot on the holder and swing inwardly and outwardly without materially disturbing its position on the shoulder of the wearer. The inturned flanges are shown as comparatively narrow but may be made Wider if desired.
By having the top open the straps can be readily inserted into the holder without removing them from the garment and the holder can be readily removed when desired or the holder can be left permanently on the straps.
It will be seen from Figure 'that the holder, if desired, may be provided with openings 8 in order to adapt it to receive a fastening device, such as, for example, a safety pin 9 so that the holder can be temporarily secured to a garment of the wearer, such as, for example, the shirt.
Having thus described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. A holder for retaining in position on the shoulder of the wearer straps of apparel, comprising a strip of sheet material having opposite sides inwardly curved and having its marginal edges deflected inwardly to form retaining means for the straps. 7
2. A holder for retaining in position on the shoulder of the wearer straps of apparel comprising a strip of sheet material having opposite sides inwardly curved and having its marginal edges deflected inwardly to form retaining means for the straps, one of said sides having openings adapted to receive a fastening device.
