Hair curlers hitherto produced have the disadvantage that the free ends of the spring bands are interlocked in such a manner that openingthereof becomes dilicult,fespecially where hair strands arecaught between the ends. Y u

To obviate this difficulty the present invention has for its principal object the provision Vof a curler which is of simple `construction and may be easily manipulated so as to close" Vor open the hair curler without any difficulty.

A further object consists in providing the curler band with an extension at one end to permit loose ends of thehair strands to be held inV place while the curler is wound.

Other and equally important objects will become apparent from a perusal of the invention, the latter comprises the means described in the following specification, particularly pointed out in the claims forming a part thereof, and illustrated inthe accompanying drawing, in which Figure lis a perspective view of a hair curler constructed in accordance` withl my invention.

The curler comprises a spring band designated by 10, which comprises a main bodyjv f portion 11 andv an end portion 12, saidV por-A tions being interconnected by a small loop 13 to impart resiliency to the band. The body portion 11 is provided with a slide member 14 and at its extremity is equipped with a loop l5 and' withan extension 16 bent to engage the outside of the body port-ion 11, and

being bent to comprisea portion 17 lparallel to the body portion 11 and whichy end portion I 18 is curved by contact with the body portion.

IP Q FFICE Y In use a strand of hair is coiled around the Y body portion 11 whereupon the e'nd portion 12 is forced into contact witlithe body portion 11 and the slide 14 is shifted so as to encomf pass the extremity of the end kportion 12. lVhen it is desired to remove the curler then the slide is shifted so as to release the end portion 12 and the curler may be readily re-` moved from the hair. Loose strands maybe secured in place by introducing them between Athe body portion 12 and the extension 16., The curler when wound holds the hair in place and affords a neat appearance as no loose hair ends are visible.

Furthermore the convenient manner of securing the free rend 12 in place or releasing the same facilities' the manipulation of the curler and avoids the possibility of damage tothe finger nails When opening or closing the curler. The disadvantage of injury to the finger nails is entirely obviated withv the present invention without in any way adding to the cost of producing the curler.
