Description

L. C. EATON, decd.
JULIA M. EATON, Admrx.
SPRING-CLEVIS.
No.179,285. Patented June 27,1876.-
INVENTOR 7 V 04; k5. 445;
I 6: Z ATTORNEYS N. PETERS, PHOTO-LITHOGRAFNER, WASHINGTON D O WlTNESSES UNITED STATES PATENT OFFIQE.
JULIA M. EATON, OF DOYLESTOWN, OHIO, ADMINISTRATRIX OF LEWIS O. EATON, DECEASED.
IMPROVEMENT IN SPRlNG-CLEVISES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 179,285, dated June 27, 1876; application filed May 6, 1876.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that LEWIS G. EATON, o Doylestown, in the county of Wayne and State of Ohio, did invent a new and valuable Improvement in Spring Plow-Glevis; and I, Mrs. JULIA M. EATON, administratrix ot' the estate of LEWIS U. EATON, deceased, do hereby declare that the following is afull, clear, and exact description of the construction and operation of the same, reference being had to the aunexed drawings, making a part of this specification, and to theletters and figures of reference marked thereon.
Figure 1 of the drawing is a representation of a plan View of the spring plow-clevis, and Fig. 2 is a central vertical sectional View of the same.
The nature of this invention consists in the construction and arrangement of a springclevis for plows, as will be hereinafter more fully set forth.
In the annexed drawing, A represents the double-tree, of any suitable construction. B is the clevis, made of metal, in the form shown--that is to say, of a single bar or plate, bent in the center, forming two parallel arms, which lie, one on top and one on the under side of the double-tree. These arms are slotted longitudinally, as shown at b, and a bolt or pin, d, is passed through the double-tree and through the slots 1) b of the clevis. Through the ends of the clcvis is passed a pin or bolt, a, which also passes through the center of a solid rubber disk or cylinder, 0, of the same thickness as the double-tree. This rubber cylinder rests against a concave part or cut-out ot' the front edge of the double-tree. When the draft is applied to the double-tree, this gives by the bolt (1 sliding in the slots 1) of the clevis, and the rubber cylinder 0 is thereby compressed, forming a spring-cushion, so that there will be do (lead draft, as is the case with ordinary plow-clevises.
It is well known that a springclevis has been heretofore in use; hence such is not claimed, broadly, in this application.
What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
A double-tree, A, a clevis, B, slotted at b b, in combination with a spring, 0, substantially as described.
In testimony that I claim the above I have hereunto subscribed my name in the presence of two witnesses.
JULIA M. EATON, Admt'm'stmtm'x of Lewis 0'. Eaton, deceased. Witnesses:
J. B. WEAVER, WM. JOHNSON.
