COSMETIC CONTAINER Filed May s1. 1929 2 sheets-sheet 2 Jan. 27, 1931 .i 35 MMI ff?? ATTORNEY Patented Jan. 27, 1931 UNirEn STATES PATENT OFFICE JOSEPH LESHIN, OF BRONX, NEW YORK, ASSIGNOR TO MAJESTIC METAL SPECIALTIES INC., OF NEW YORK, N. Y., A CORPORATION F NEW YORK COSMETIC CONTAINER Application filed May 31, 1929. Serial No. 367,571.
My invention relates to cosmetic containers and refers particularly to devices of this character possessing the properties of compactness, utility and attractive contour, all
of which are most desirable attributes of containers of this character.
A consideration of my specification and its accompanying drawings'will indicate the novelty and usefulness of my device.
In the accompanying drawings illustrating one form of the device of my invention, similar parts are indicated by similar numerals.
Figure 1 is a perspective view of one form of my device in closed position.
Figure 2 is a top view of the device with one cover compartment in open position.
Figure 3 is a top view of the device with both cover compartments in open position.
Figure 4 is a section through the line 4-4 of Figure 1.
Figure 5 is a section through the line 5 5 of Figure 1.
Figure 6 is a section through the line 6--6 v of Figure 3.
The particular form of the device of my invention illustrated in the accompanying drawings comprises a body container having the bottom 10, the front 11, the back 12 and the ends 13 and 14.
An angular frame having the vertical member 15 and the horizontal flange 16 is fitted within the inner faces of the front, back and ends of the body container, the flange 16 improving the appearance of the device and acting as an abutting surface for the cover compartments as described later.
A flat spring,` 17, fixedly attached at 18 to the front 11, has a thumb-push 1'9 extending through an opening in the front 11 and an upwardly extended hook-catch 19 extending through the flange 16. A double faced reilective cover 2() is hingedly attached to the flange 16.
Hingedly attached to the end 13 of the body is a cover compartment having the top 21, the front 22, the back 23 and the ends 24 and 25.
The end 24 has an extended lip 26, the use of which will be explained later.
An angular frame having the vertical member 27 and the horizontal flange 28 is fitted within the inner faces ofthe front, back and ends of the cover compartment,v the flange 28 improving the appearance of the device and abutting upon the flange 16 of the body container when the cover is closed.l
A cover 29 is hingedly attached to the flange 28.
Hingedly attached to the end 14 of the body is a cover compartment having the top 21 the front 22,-the back 23 and the ends 24 and 25".
An angular frame having the vertical member 27 and the horizontal flange 28 is fitted within the cover compartment and abuts upon the flange 16 of the body container when the cover is closed.
The flange 28 has an opening 30 through which the hook-catch 2O extends and retains Ehe second cover compartment in closed posiion.
An extended member 31 acts to retain the powder puff 32 in position.
It will be noted that when the two cover compartments are in closed position, the end 24 abuts upon the lip 26 of the other cover compartment and is retained in closed position by the hook-catch 19', the thumb-push 19 thus releasing both cover compartments from locked closed position.
Powder compacts 33 and 34 and powder puffs 35 and 32 are positioned within the body compartment and one cover compartment, while rouge 36 is contained within the cover compartment having a lid.
It will thus be seen that my invention present-s a three compartment container in a most compact and convenient form as the covers act as containers thus presenting the maximum of interior space with a minimum of device size. Further, the mirror is so posi-V tioned that it Vmay be employed with either cover compartment without exposing the contents of the body compartment.
I do not limit myself to the particular size, shape, number, or arrangement, of parts as shown and described as these are given simply as a means for clearly describing the device of my invention.
What I claim is 1. In a cosmetic container, in combination, a body container, a reflective cover for said body container, two compartments hingedly attached to opposite portions of said body container, said compartments meeting over said cover when they are in closed position, means for retaining said compartments in closed position and exterior means releasing said compartments from said retained closed position.
2. In a cosmetic container, in combination, a body container, a reiiective cover for said body container, two compartments hingedly attached to opposite portions of said body container, said compartments meeting over said cover when they are in closed position, means whereby one compartment, when in closed position, will retain the other compartment in closed position, means for retaining the lirst mentioned compartment in closed position and exterior means releasing said first mentioned compartment from said retaining; position.
3. In a cosmetic container. in combination. a body container, a reflective cover for said body container, two compartments hingedly attached to opposite portions of said body container, said compartments meeting over said cover when they are in closed position, an extended flange carried b v one said compartments, means whereby the other compartment will ahnt upon said flange when said compartments are in closed position retaining said compartments in closed position and exterior means for releasing said second compartment from said retaining position.
4. In a cosmetic container. in combination, a body container. a reflective cover for said body container, two compartments hingedly attached to opposite portions of said body container, said compartments meeting over said cover when they are in closed position, a cover for one of said compartments, means for retaining said compartments in closed position vand exterior means releasing said compartments from said retained closed position.
5. In a cosmetic container, in combination, a body container. reflective cover for said body container, two compartments hinnedly attached to opposite portions of said body container, said compartments meeting over said cover when they are in closed position, a cover for one of said compartments, means whereby one compartment. when in closed position, will retain the other compartment in closed position, means for retaining the first-mentioned compartment in closed position and exterior means releasing said lirst mentioned compartment from said retaining position.
6. In a cosmetic container, in combination, a body container, a reflective cover for said body container, two compartments hingedly day of May, 1929.
