2 f 1,181,956 1 a j This invention relates to anew and use ful apparatus for cleaning dental burrs; and
its'prima-ry object is, to provide'a device which is adapted to free the used burrs from the adhering foreign matter by mechanical' means and deposit the removed bacteria carrying matter within a receptacle which envelops the cleaning brushj I attain this object by the mechanism illustrated in the accompanying drawings,
showing the preferred form of my invention .and in which v r I v Fig. 1 is a sideelevation of the apparatus, Fig. 2 a front elevation of the apparatus, Fig.
3 a plan view of the apparatus, and Fig. 4
an elevation of the left hand side of the casin'g shown in'Fig. 2. Similar letters refer to similar parts throughout the several views. I
r The apparatus consists essentially of the standard u which can be clamped .toa table,
the drum 10, mounted on thebolt o and pro vided with axially extendinggrooves on its periphery, the worm-gear :0, Q, for rotating said drum, the brake' blocke disposed above the drum w, the circular brush ehaving the toothed drive 0, (Z, (Z, of the burr support plate 7 and the sheet metal casing a enclosing the brush 6. y I l Theburrs f to be cleaned, are placed upon the plate 7' (Fig. 2) on the left side of the apparatus, where, they lie against'the drum w in consequence of'the inclined'position of the plate f. By rotating thecrank b pro vided on pinion o the brush 6 is rotated by means of the gear-Wheels 0,65", Z, on the one hand, and the drum 7.0 by means of the wormgear 00, 2 onthe other hand, the brush quickly and the drum slowly. Up'on rotation o of the drum, the burrs lying on the plate 1 f are taken up one after the other by the grooves of the drum w and passed by the rotating 'cleaningbrush e, the burrs themselves being rotated about their longitudinal axes by frictionagainst the brake-block e, advantageously consisting of rubber, so that all the teeth of the burrs areengaged by the brush. When the burrs have passed the brush and therefore alsothe brake-block 2, they fall out of the grooves of the drum to burrs. v
sheet-metal .casingfa which serves toicatch F into the chute 0 from which they slide out of the apparatus. i With regard to the inclined position'ot the: a teeth'in the burr-head andin order that the. bristles ofthe brush may act in the dire oi'the grooves ofthe teeth, the brush ea, s is inclined to'the longitudinal "axes ofthe Thebrush e is enclosed from outside by the thematter. flungfromthe brush. Said casing is clamped to theapparatus bythe screw .Z) which'fitsinto the slotted progecting lap a of the casing a and ca-nbe readily removed after loosening said scre'w. i By'me'ans of a small opening a at the top of the casinga other instruments, asiorexample nerve-needles, can be cleaned on the brush 0., g As willbe evident to those skilled in the art, my invention permits of various modifications without departing from the spirit;-
thereof or the scope of the appended, claims.
. 'vVhat-Iclaimis: A dental burr cleaning apparatus, comprising in combination, a'cleaning brush journaled in acasing', a rest for the burrs to be cleaned, means to engage the burrs from their rest and feed them to said brush andmeans to rotate the burrs about their longitudinal axes 9 when passing by the brush. r
, In testimony whereof I havehereunto subscribed my name. l
