Application filed September 15, 1922. Serial No. 588,423.
To 012 whom it may concern:
Be it known that 1, JOHN VISHLOFF, a citizen of Russia, residing at Lundbreck, in the Province of Alberta and Dominion of Canada, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Wool-Combing Implements, of which the following is a specification. r
This invention relates to a wool combing implement intended more particularly for use in mixing up various grades of wool for use in paddings or fillings. V
The invention has'for an object to provide .a novel and improved wool combing implement which will be simple and inex pensive to construct, and efficient in operation. 1
For further comprehension of the invention, and of the objects and advantages thereof, references will be had to the following description and accompanying drawings, and. to the appended claims in which the various novel features of the invention are more particularly set forth.
Fig. 1 of the drawings is a detail perspective view of my improved wool combing implement. v
Fig. 2 is a longitudinal vertical sectional view of the fixed comb element.
7 Fig.3 is a plan view of the other combing element.
Fig.4 is a longitudinal vertical sectional view thereof. p
My improved wool combing implement comprises briefly, a pair of members each provided with comb teeth, one of said members being adapted for fixing on a bench, table or the like, while the other is held in the hand of and manipulated by, the workman.
' In constructing my improved wool combing implementlprovide a pair of fiat platelike backing or body members 10 and 20 respectively, the member 10 being adapted to be secured to the bench or, table, as by a screw 12 passed through a suitable'aperture therein and screwed-into the said bench or table. The other member 20, is adapted to be held in the hand of the workman and is provided with an integral handle extension 13.
At the end opposite the handle extension 13 the body 20 presents a'straight translverseedge while the body element 10 has a like edge on the end thereof nearest thev edge of the benchor table on which it, may be mounted. V
' Projecting substantially vertically from these edges are the comb teeth 15 and 28 respectively. The teeth 15 on the member 10 project from a narrow backing element such as 17 which engages in. a chamfered recess in the edge of the said member, and which may be held in place by a strip 18 secured in place by screws such as 19. The teeth on the member 20'are adjustable so as to vary both the effective length thereof and It)he angle of projection from the said'mem- To this end the body member 20 is provided and has fixed therein a transverse rod 21 on which is loosely mounted a frame '22 having a pair of forwardly projecting lugs .into receive a turning rod.
Formed on the frame 22, concentric to the rod 21, is a worm segment 37 engaged by a worm pinion 38 suitably journa'led in the body 20, the various parts above described being accommodated in a recess 39 in the latter. The worm pinion 38 has fixed to one of the trunnions thereof a wing head 40% whereby it may be turned, this wing head 1 being accommodated. in a smaller recess "11 in the member 20, said recess being normally covered by a removable plate 42;
As will be apparent, by suitable manipu- 40, the teeth28 may either have their angle withrespect to the comb body 20 varied, or their effective length varied, or a combination of both adjustments may be effected.
In use the wool to be mixed is placed on the fixedmember 10 and is combed or pulled through the teeth 15 thereon by the teeth 28 on the part 20.
Having. thus' described my invention lation of the turnbuckles 34 and the head I What I claim as new and desire to protect by Letters Patent of the United States is as follows 1. A comb comprising a body element, teeth extending at an angle thereto, a
a hinged bar on which said teeth are fixed,
and Worm and pinion means for swinging said bar, to vary the relation of the teeth to the said body element. I
2. A comb comprising a body element, a frame pivoted therein, means for adjusting said frame on its pivoted axis, a tooth carrying element pivoted to said frame, and a longitudinally adjustable link connected at 15 one end to said body element, and at its opposite end to said tooth carrying element at a point removed from the point of connection of said tooth carrying element to said frame.
3. A comb comprising a body element, a frame pivoted therein, a bar pivoted to said frame on a parallel axis, teeth fixed to said bar, a longitudinally adjustable link oonnecting said bar to said body element, a Worm segment on said frame, and a Worm pinion engaging said Worm segment.
In testimony whereof I have aflixed my signature.
JOHN VI'SHLOFF.
