UNITED STATES JOHN WHITEFORD, OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS.
"lMPR OVEMENT IN BOUQUET-HOLDERS- Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 177,365, dated May 16, 1876; application filed April 18, 1876.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, JOHN WHITEFORD, of Chicago, county of Cook, and Stateof Illinois have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Bouquet-Holders; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, in which- Figure l is a perspective view of my invention, and Fig. 2 a vertical section of the'same.
This invention has relation to bouquet-holders; and consists of a holder adapted to be secured and worn in the button-hole or headdress wi'thout the necessity of using pins or other similar fastenings, as will be hereinafter more fullyset forth.
In the drawings, A is designed to represent the hollow stem or tube of my bouquet-holder, which may be, if desired, of suflicient size to hold water, by which the flowers placed there- This tube A is closed at the lower end, and slightly curved or bent at the upper end, as shown at a, and around the open end of the tube is an outwardly-inclined projecting flange, B, which, in connection with the bent portion of the tube, allows the flange to rest flat up against the lapel of the coat, or other garment to which the holder is attached, the curve in the upper part of the tube alsoallowing the same to assume a vertical position when the tube contains water. To insure additional security against the holder falling out, I provide the tube with a horn or projection, (J, at a suitable distance from the annular flange B, which, when the cloth or'edge of the button-hole is slipped over, securely-holds the devicein place.
This bouquet-holder may be formed of met- MasswomQmpgoiher suitable material, and may be either plain oForna-mentalyasdcsired.
Having now-fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
l. The bouquet holder consisting of the curved tube A and inclined annular flange B, substantially as and for the purpose specified.
2. The bouquet holder consisting of the curved tube A, inclined annular flange B, and projection or horn O, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
. JOHN WHITEFORD.
