This invent-ion relates to gas bu'rningappliances and in particular the means for controlling the flow of gaseous -fuel in such appliances.
.It has for its obj ect the provision of an adjustable needle valve lthat provides a means for readily and easily attaching and detaching the gas line to an appliance.
A further object of this invention is to provide a valve that is simple in construction and comprises a relatively small number of inexpensive and rugged elements.
Another object of this invention is to provide a valve with a union connection between its inlet andvoutlet portions. 4
In certain types of gas burningappliances such as storage automatic water heaters, the
flow o f gaseous fuel to the main heating burner is controlled by va thermostatic or other type of automatic valve. An adjusting valve is usually placed in the feed line bef. tween the automatic valve and the burner and is commonly secured to the mixing or Venturi tube of the burner.l The gas supply conduit is usually secured to the thermostatic valve by means of a union connection and the above cited fittings connected to each other and then to the burner without the use of a second union connection. Itis apparent that such an arrangement necessitates considerable labor when it is desired -to remove the.

The spud carrier 5 is internally threaded at 13 to receive the spud 6 which is provided with the gas passage 7 which constitutes a restricted outlet passage for the valve. The flow of gas through the passage 7 is controlled by an adjustable needle valve 8 which is threadabl received in a suitable opening 9 in the valve body 1.
A closure cap 10 is provided to prevent the escape of gas from the valve body at the point where it receives the needle valve 8.
Furthermore it is to be understood that the particular forms of apparatus shown and described and the particular procedure set forth are presented for purposes of explanation and illustration and that various modifications of said forms and procedure can be made without departing from my invention as defined in the appended claims.
What I claim is:
1. In an adjusting valve for gas burning appliances, a valve body provided with inlet and outlet openings, a spud carrier, a union connection between said spud carrier and the outlet end of said valve body, a spud carried by said spud carrier and an adjustable .needle to vary the size of the opening at the inlet end of said Spud.
2. A needle adjustment regulating valve comprising, a, valve body provided with inlet and outlet passages, a coupling member having a restricted outlet passage, and means comprising a union connection to detachably v secure said coupling member to the outlet end of said valve body, and an adjustable needle valve cooperating with said coupling member to regulate fiuid flow therethrou h.

A regulating valve comprising a va ve body having inlet and outlet passages, a spud carrier having securing means at' one end an'd'adaptedto be detachably secured at its opposite-end to the outlet end of the valve body, a spud carried'by said Spud carrier, and an adjustable needle carrled by said valve body to regulate fluid iow through said spud.
4. A reducing-valve for gas burning appliances having an enlarged inlet and a restricted outlet passage, an adjustable valve member operatively associated with said restricted /outlet passage for regulating uid .f flow therethrough, threaded portions formed portions.
