Abstract
420,258. Fluid - actuated valves. RADIATION, Ltd., Thimble Mill Lane, Aston, Birmingham, and YATES, H. J., 15, Grosvenor Place, London. Dec. 2, 1933, No. 33948. [Class 135] A gas valve e, controlling the supply of gas to the burner b of a water heater, is connected to two diaphragms k, j exposed to pressures in a full bore part of the cold water pipe m and at the throat of a Venturi v. The valve is loaded by an adjustable spring i. Loose flaps or discs x serve as non-return valves to minimize the risk of water hammer action on the diaphragms j, k. The valve e is provided with slots e<1> to cause the flow of gas to be proportional to the valve lift, and a conical face on the valve engages a seat when the valve is closed. The Provisional Specification states that the diaphragms may be replaced by corrugated metal or other flexible bellows.
