Description
Feb. 11,1930. T. KERKliOFF' I 1,745,534
FORM FOR NECKTIES Filed June 12, 1928 a J I Patented Feb. 11, 1930 UNITED STATES THEODOR KERKHOFIE, F HAMBURG, GERMANY Fomvr non nncxrrns Application filed June 12, 1928, Serial No. 284,748, and in Germany August 25, 1927.
This invention relates to improvements in forms for neckties, and more particularly to a form about which a bow tie may be tied, and
then positioned over a collar button without having the tie encircle the neck of the wearer. An object of the invention is to provide an improved form for neckties, which will supwhich will support a tie bar pivoted between its opposite ends, and tension the bar when it is in its upper position ready to receive a bow tie, and also clamp the tie bar in its lower or operative position whenthe formand tie are to be worn.
Other objects will appear as the description proceeds.
In the accompanying drawings which form a part of my application:
proved form for neckties showing the tie bar in lower or operative position.
Figure 2 is a front elevation of the form showing the tie bar in raised position to receive a bow tie.
Figure 3 is a plan view of the necktie form in position as shownin Figure 1.
Figure 4 is a similar view but showing the form in open position to receive a necktie.
Like characters of reference are used throughout the following specification and the accompanying drawings to designate corresponding parts. My improved form for neckties comprises 40 a body portion 1 of flexible material formed at opposite ends with enlargements or wings 2, which extend upward a slight distance above the main portion of the body 1. A colr lar button hole 3 is formed in the body 1 adjacent its central portion, and may be of any desired contour. The body 1 is preferably formed of celluloid or hard rubber, so that the same may be readily flexed, and when retion.
Figure 1 is a front elevation of my imleased, spring back to its original or flat posi- A tie bar 4 is formed with a straight central shank 5, and is curved upwardly, outwardly and rearwardly at 6 adjacent the opposite ends of the central shank 5. The end portions of the bar 4 from points 24' extend downwardly slightly toward the wings 2, and then extend upwardly and outwardly as at 6", the latter portions 6 extending through openings 7 in the wings 2 of the body, which serve as bearings for the said bar. ends of the bar 4 are enlarged to form heads 8 which limit the endwise movement of the bar with reference to the body portion 1.
The operation of the form will now be described in detail. When it is desired to tie a it bow tie on the tie bar, the 'bar is swnngupwardly and back to the position shown in a substantially flat or normal position. When the bar is turned down as shown in Fig. 1, the shank portion 5 will lie over the front surface of the form 1 and from the points 4' lie back of the wings 2, while the friction between the outwardly extended end portions 6" and the walls of the openings 7 holds the shank 5 in close contact with the form 1.
It will be understood that either a bow tie or four-in-hand tie may be equally well used with the form.
Many minor changes in detail of construction maybe resorted to without departing from the spirit of the invention.
Havingthus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters 1 Patent of the United States is:
A necktie holder comprising a body portion of resilient material having wings at opposite ends which extend above the top edge of the central part of the body portion, said wings having openings, a bar formed with a central shank which normally lies on the front surface of the body portion and provided with end portions extended upwardly and rearwardly to be over the body portion The extreme and in rear of the wings, said end portions of the bar being further extended outwardly and upwardly to engage through the openings in the wings, and heads formed at the extreme outer ends of the bar to hold the bar and body to ether.
11 testimony whereof I aifix my signature.
THEODOR KERKHOFF.
