The present invention applicable to molding machines which include a jarringy table and a so called rolloverplate and which are operated in Vsuch, a way that a pattern I' 5 board and'. flask 4frame filled with sand are jarred on the jarring table and are then rolled over or inverted with the `rollover plate so o that thefmold is deposited upon a support and M f then the p'attern board and pattern are lifted.V
ram themold and to thereafterroll vover the 'mold and draw thepattern, thus effecting a saving in time for the reason that the jarring, rolling and pattern drawing Voperations require avery small fraction 'of the time that is simple, Vreliable andin part automatic means Y for Clamping the pattern board and pattern @-25 attached thereto to the rollover plate and for Y clamping the flask frame to the pattern board in `such a Away that the Vlatter can be releasedl for pattern drawing. y rOther objects of the invention will appear A l 30 from Vthey kfollowingdescription at the end of which the invention will be claimed, howevier, the invention, generally stated, Com-V` prises a molding machine .including a jarring table and a rollover plate and a pattern L35 board having a pattern `affixed to one face thereof and a flask frame, in association withv mortise pins arranged on theother face of' the board` and adapted to proj ectv through openings provided'in vthe plate, Cotter bars provided on the plate and adapted to engage the mortise pins, springs for pressing the bars n into locking position, levers adapted to'shift the bars into unlocking position and arranged 4:5 for actuation Vby the jarring table when the plate is in positionv thereon, and pneumaticV clamps carried by the platel and arranged' to lock and unlockv the flask frame when positioned on the board.Y

Therolloverl plate 2 is of channeledv 80 or'ihollow Construction and it is providedl Y with dowel pins 26 which serve to position it upon the jarring table l. The rollover plate isalso providedwith slidable Cotterbars 8 not importanti .These Cotter lbars Vare ar-. ranged as shown-*to slide in vopenings pro- The i pattern board 3 isprovided with mortise pins 9 adapted to enter openings provided in the Vrollover plate Y iny order to present their mortises or openings oppositethe Cotter bars. i, The cotterbarsfare pressed by springs l0 into position for entering theopeningsinthe pins 95 9. lThere is a two armed'lever 11 pivotally 'Connected with' Athe rolloverplate, f oreX Y ample, bylbeing pivoted betweentwo of the ribsfo'f` that plate.- One arm of this lever 11 has appropriate connection with thev Cotter 100 Y' bar 8 and the other arm by Contact with the table 1 turns the lever in such a way that the @otter bar is withdrawn from the pin as shown in Figure 2.
The rollover plate 2 is provided with pneumatic clamps 12 of which four are shown. The pneumatic clamps are mounted upon standards 13 and the latter are adj ustably j connected with the rollover plate2 by lag bolts 174; so that the standards ,and the 'clamps they carry can be adjusted to cooperate with flask frames of different lengths. Theclamps are shown to include cylinders 15 and spring pressed pistons 16 of which thevrods 17 are provided with clamping jaws 18 having beveled ends for engaging the flange on the flask frame 5. 19 represents inlets for supplying fluid under pressure to the cylinders.
Il`l1e mode of operation of the described mechanism may be explained as follows:
At some convenient iilling stand a pattern board 3 with a lpattern attached is covered by a suitable flask 5 and lled with sand, then this is lifted by the pattern board by a 1crane and deposited on the rollover plate 2. The mortise pins 9 enter the openings in the plate 2 but the cotter barsare held out of engagement with them as indicated in Figure 2, then the flask is jar rammed andV struck of. The rollover plate rises clearing the jarring table so that'the Cotter bars and mortise pins lock the pattern board to the rollover plate. `The clamps 12 serve to hold the flask in place while Vthe rollover plate is rolled over.
This inverts the flask so that the top board 'is brought under. The clamps 12 are released and the rollover plate is elevated carrying with it the pattern board 3 so that the pattern is drawn shift the bar into locking position, a lever adapted to shift the bar into unlocking position and arranged for actuation by the jarring table when the plate is in position thereon, said spring adapted to hold said bar in lock- `ing position when the rollover plate is elevated to pattern draw, and pneumatic clamps carried by the plate and adapted to lock and to unlock the flask frame when positioned on the pattern board. v
2. Clamping means for molding machines comprising in combination mechanism including a mortise pin and a cooperating sliding Cotter bar adapted to unlock the pattern board from the rollover plate-when the latter is in position on the jarring table and to lock the same when the rollover plate is elevated to 'pattern draw, and clamp means for locking the rollover plate and the flask frame in respect to the pattern board.
' Y WILFRED LEWIS.
out of the flask.` The rollover plateis then I turned back to its initial position in which the pattern board 3 is free to be lifted off,
taken to a filling stand and then covered with another flask frame and filled.
The described operations are repeated and it is evident that the molding machine may be kept Iconstantly in use and an increase in the number of molds made in a given time effected.
It will be obvious to those skilled in the art to which the invention relates that modifications may be made in details of construc-V tion and arrangements and matters of mere form without departing from the spirit of the invention which is not limited in regard to 'such matters or otherwise than theV prior art and the appended claims may require.
I claim:
1. Clamping means for molding machines co mprising in combination a mortise pin arranged'on the face of the board and adapted to project through an openingprovided in the plate, a ycotter bar provided on the plate and arranged for locking and unlocking cooperation with the pin, a spring tending to iao
