MORGAN-EVANS 1,730,454 ,BAlY GARMENT Filed Deo. 20, 1926 3 Sheets-Sheet 3 Y Patented Oct. 8, 1929 UNITED STATES ortica i MARY MORGAN-Evans, or 'noU1a1D'U1n MONTANA BABY GARMENT v Application mea December cof-'1926, iseriallivo.*1756,008.v
This invention relates to the class Vof apparel and pertains particularly to a garment for infant wear.
- The primary object of this invention is to v provide a garment designed toV take the place of a shirt and the usual abdominal band worn by infants.
The garment embodying this invention contemplates the provision of a back panel Y. and a chest panel having shoulder half-straps on one side while an integral shoulder strap connects the panels upon the opposite side.
The rear panel is provided with band sections which are designed to Ybe folded across' Y the stomach and when the garment 1s 1 n por sition three layers of material cover the 1nshowing of the drawings but may b-e changed or modified so long assuch changes or modi l l each side' of the panel 8 1s an abdominal band end section, which sections are indicated by 85 the numerals 12 and 13, and as shown `in vFigures'l,` 3 and 7 these band sections are materiallvlessinV width than thelength of the fications lmark nol material `departure from the salient features of the invention as eX- pressed in the appended claim.
In the drawings: Figure 1 shows the garment in front elevation with the band sections connected.
tion.
Figure 3 is a front elevationof the garment showing the band sections disconnected and in opened position. l
Figure 4 is a section upon the line 4 4 of Figure 1. Figure 5 is a vertical transversek section taken upon the line 5 5 of Figure l.
Figure 6 is a horizontal section through a derstanding however, that the invention is not f' confined to any strict conformity with the Figure 2 shows the garment in rear eleva- 1 Set intothelower lportionof the band section showingth'e'man-l ner which the'securin'g tapes are attached. K Figure ,7 is a pattern view ofthe garment. Referring now tothe dra-wings in detail wherein like numerals of referenceindicate y Corresponding parts throughout the several views, the numeral 1 indicates the front panel ofthe garment, the upper portion `of each side edge thereof being cut inwardly as indicated y l fbynumerals 2 and lymaking` this portion of 60 "reduce'dwidth while-the top edge has a curved section cut therefroml as indicated at 4, formingvupon one side Yofthe panel the shoulderportion 5: which extends? laterally at 'ian acute Vangle to the length ofthe panel, while 7 65 Y another'shoulder portion 6 is formed vat the f opposite side of the panel whichv extends subi stantiallyjparallel to the ylength thereof7 the section cut out at 4 being so designed as to set up-a tongue 7 acrossI the shoulderportion 6]"70 i The back panel of the garment is indicated at 8, the "top portion of'- this panel being of slightly less width'than the upper portion of thep'anell, asshown in F igure `7, and the top edge ofthe panel 8 is cutaway as indi- 75 l catedfat -9` to vform the neck encircling section and setting yup the straightl "shoulder strap sections 10 and 11.
'stitched tothe tab 7 of the'opposed shoulder The section 11 is strap 6upon" the panell, thusbringing the 80 cut out spaces'4'andf9 into lopposed relation y to form the neckofv the garment.
' Formed integral with and extending from "panel'of which 4they form apart.
Each ofthesho'ulder strap portions 5 and 90 10 has 'a reinforcingltape 14 sewed'transversely thereof and thesetapes secure to the gether. g
edgeof the Aback panel 8,-approxi1nate'ly at the lines of j oinder betweenthis panel and the band sections 12 and 13, aregussets 16, which gussets tend to constrict the lower portion of the garment 1,100
.18 and 2() ltied together as in the when the band sections 12 and 13 are secured around the body in overlappingvrelation, as shown in Figures 1 and 2.
At the inner end of the band section 12 a reinforcingtape 17 is secured whichV extends transversely of the band section and secures kthereto the ends'of a plurality of tie strings or tapes 18.
Secured transversely of the other ban-d section, adjacent the free end thereof is a reinforcing tape 19, which secures to this section the ends of a plurality of tie tapes 2(1).
As will be readily understood from a consideration of the drawing Ataken in connection with the foregoing description, the garment is suspended from an infants shoulders by means of the shoulder straps 5, 6,10 and. V11 positioning the panels'l and 8 across the chest and ba'clr respectively, aftervwhich the band section 12` is folded in across the body andpanel 1 and 'finallythe band section 13 is folded over thegsection 12 and the tapes shown in Figure 1.` l. 1
As shown inFigure 4 lthree layers of Inaterial overlie the abdomen of the'infant when this garment is in position.
Due to the manner in which the strap 5 eX- tends from the panel 1, when` the end ofvthis section is brought against the end of the strap section 10 to bef secured thereto, the portion lof the panel lying between the straps 5 and A6 willgbe bowed out vgiving.additional neck and chest space.` A Y 'y Having `thus described my invention, what lclairnis- Y l.
An infant undergarrnent constructed :to provide a combinedV undershirt and abdominal band comprising like companionfront andrear panels, each being reduced in width atvthe upper end to define arm holes, when theipanels are placed on an infant and Veach provided with rLrcuate yportions at their upper edffes to define a neck openinof, the panels beingrintegrally connected at oner side of the arcuate'portions by a shoulder strap, shoulder strapY extensions on the panels on the other side ofV the arcuate portions, means detachably connecting the shoulder straps together, abdominal band extensions formed on the opposite sides of the rear panel of the same width as the height of the enlargedportion of.` the panel, areinforoing tape securedk to one bandV extension substantially at the" juncturevof the extension with the rear panel, a reinforcing tape secured to'theother band extension adjacent to the free edge thereof, and tying tapes for connecting the band eX- tensions together secured between the binding 'tapes and the band extensions. l
In testimony whereof I atliX my signature.
