SWING.

Application filed April 7, 1927.

This invention relates to an improvement in swings, and has for one of its objects, to provide a swing with which a party in the swing can swing himself with a pumping movement by a hand rail.

Another object of this invention is to provide-a swing with which the party will be given exercise by movements of rowing and pumping.

With these and other objects in view the invention consists of the novel construction of parts as hereinafter fully described and claimed.

In the accompanying drawing forming a part of this specification, and in which corresponding parts are denoted by like reference characters, is illustrated the preferred form of embodiment of the invention, capable of carrying the same into practical operation, it being understood that the invention is not necessarily limited thereto, as various changes in the shape, proportions and general assemblage of its parts may be resorted to without departing from the principles of the invention or sacrificing any of its advantages, and the right is therefore reserved to make all the changes and modifications which will fairly fall within the scope of the invention and the claims made therefor.

The invention comprises in combination with a support A, a U shaped clamp or hanger 1 which is placed over a cross beam B of the support A and then secured thereon by bolts 2.

The ends of the U shaped hanger 1 have apertures therein through which is placed a bolt 3. Over the bolt 3 is placed a U shaped suspension having apertures in its ends through which pass bolts 5, 6 and 7.

The U shaped suspension pivotally rests on the bolt 3 to allow the swing to have a side motion.

each of the hanger rods 10 are pivotally attached to bolt 7 A lever or swinging handle 12 is pivotally attached to the hanger rods 10 at 13. The lower ends of the yokes 8 and 9 are also pivotally attached to the handle 12 at 1 1.

The swinging handle 12 is constructed with two sides 15 which are spaced apart by bolts 16 and 17 having their ends riveted to secure the sides together.

Secured to each hanger rod 10 at 19 is a side brace 18 the ends thereof being secured to a cross brace 20 at 21. The lower ends of the hanger rods 10 are also secured to the cross brace 20 at 22.

The cross brace 20 forms a support for the seats 24 which are located one at each end thereof. The cross brace 20 is comprised of two sides spaced apart by bolts 24.

The seats 24: are hinged at 28 to one side of the cross brace 20 in such a manner that it can be lifted upwardin the direction of the dotted lines 25. When the seats are lowered into place they are secured therein by a catch 26 which fits into a yoke 27 to prevent the seat from moving.

When a party wishes to enter the swing, the seat is raised to allow him to enter between braces 20 and then the seat is lowered to allow him to set thereon. Then he places his feet upon bolt 24 and his hands on bolt 16, starting the swing by pulling down on the handle 12 and then pushing upwards keeps the swing moving.

If two parties are in the swing, one pushes up and the other pulls down on the handle on one movement and as the swing returns the movement of the parties is reversed.

Having thus described the invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:

In a swing, a support for said swing, a suspension member secured to said support, rods pivotally connected to said suspension member, one of said rods on one outside face of said suspension member and the other of said rods on the other outside face of said suspension member, said rods being bent outward and then downward from said susr pension member, a seat supporting member secured to the lower ends of said rods, said seat supporting member being spaced apart in such a manner that a seat can be placed between the sides thereof, a brace secured to each of said rods, the lower ends of each of said braces being secured to said seat supporting member, a lever member pivotally secured to each of said rods,other rods pivotally secured to said supporting member the lower ends thereof being pivotally secured to said lever member by crossing said rods so that said lower ends will be secured to 10 unember, said *lever and said other rods for operating 'said swing all substantially as -EPHRAIM STOCK.
