FOLDING EYESHADE WITH GAP.
Application filed June 17,
This invention relates to eye shades, and has for one of its objects to provide a novel, simple "and highly ellicient device of this character that may be compactly folded so as to permit of its being carried in the pocket or purse and which has attached thereto an elastic band to enable it to be readily secured in place and worn by persons having heads of dilfere nt sizes.
A further object of the invention to provide an eye shade of the character stated which shall also include a head covering or cap.
A still further object of the invention is the provision of an eye shade of the character set forth wherein the cap shall be adj ustable to permit of its being snugly fitted to the head.
lVith the foregoing and other objects in view, the nature of which will become apparent as the description proceeds, the invention consists of the construction, combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter fully described and claimed, and illustrated in the aceom 'ianying drawing, wherein:
Figure 1 is a view in side elevation of a combined eye shade and cap constructed in accordance with my invention,
Figure 2 is a sectional view taken on a plane extending vertically and centrally through the combined eye shade and cap,
Figure 3 a view in side elevation of a slightly modified form of the combined eye shade and cap, and
Figure 4; a detail plan view of the eye shade opened out flat.
Corresponding and like parts are referred to in the following description, and desig nated in the several views of the accompanying drawing, by similar reference characters.
In the drawing, 1 designates the eye shade, E2 the elastic band and 3 the head covering or cap of the device. The shade 1 is constructed. of paper, cloth or any other mate rial that is su'lliciently stiff to maintain the required shape when in service. It is reversely folded or of accordion form so as to permit of its being easily reduced to a small size for convenience of oarrymg 111 the pocket or purse, and is secured. at 1ts upper edge to the lower front and slde edges of the cap 3. The elastic band 2 1s secured at its ends as at 4 to the shade 1 and at its upper edge to the lower rear and side edges of the cap 3. The cap 3 is made of any suit- 1926. Serial No. 116,630.
able open mesh fabric, and is provided at its top side with an opening 5. A hem (3 is formed on the cap 3 about the opening 5, and arranged within the hem is a draw string 7. If desired, the cap may be made without the opening 5, hem ('3 and draw string 7, as shown in Figure 3. in this figure, the cap is r lesigl'iated. 3, and the similar parts of this and the other ligures are designated by the same numerals.
It will be understood that the device may be readily applied to the head, that it will be held thereon against casual displacel'nent by the elastic band. 2, and. that the shade 1 will protect the eyes and the cap 3 will protect the hair and prevent its becoming disarranged. While the device is designed for and capable of general use, it is particularly adapted for use by tennis players, baseball players and persons engaged in other sports. As the band 2 is made of elastic material, and as the cap 3 may be adjusted as to size through the medium of the draw string 7, the device may be readily adapted for use 011 heads of different sizes. Furthermore, the device may, without injury to the shade 1, be compactly folded to permit of its being carried in the pocket or purse.
It should be understood that the drawing is merely illustrative and does not pretend to give exactproportions. Furthermore, the said drawing illustrative of a preferred construction, it being my expectation that various changes and modifications may be made without departing from the spirit and scope of my invention.
hat is claimed is:--
1. A foldable device of the character set forth, comprising a cap of open mesh fabric, an eye shade of accordion form secured to the cap, and an elastic band secured to the eye shade adjacent both ends thereof and to the cap.
2. A foldable device of the character set forth, comprising a cap of open mesh fabric and provided at its top side with an opening, means by which the size of the opening may be varied, an eye shade of accordion form. secured. to a portion. of the lower edge of the cap, and. an elastic band secured to the eye shade adjacent both ends thereof and to the ren'iaining portion of the lower edge of the cap.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature.
