relation to its support.
A further object of the invention is to provide a device of this type which is composed of a minimum of parts that are compactly assembled and occupy a very small space.

Referring to the drawings, l indicates the spindle support and 2 the spindle, which latter is provided with a flanged portion that is carried by a sleeve l secured to the spindle. An arm 5 is suitably secured to the support l and may be cast integral therewith if desired, and is formed with a vertical perforation in which the lower end of a stem 7 is rigidly secured. The stein 7 has its upper end bent over and downwardly to form a finger 8 which latter is spaced from the stem. A latching disk 9 is perforated at an eccentric point to receive the stem and has sliding and turning or pivotal movement thereon. The upper face of the latching disk 9 is formed with a depression or socket 10 constitutinga keeper in which the free end of the linger' 8 is re-` ceived. A coil spring 1l encircles the stem 7 and at one end seats on the arm 5, kwhile its opposite end abuts the under face of the disk 9.
In operation, and referring to the Figures 2 and 4, it will be seen that the latching disk 9 overlies the flange 8 so that upward movement of the spindle with relation to its support is limited by the latch.y In this kposition of the parts, it will also be noted that the end of the finger 8 engages in the socket l() and is held therein by the action of the spring 11. When it is desired to release the spindle it is merely necessary to depress the latching disk 9 sufficiently to disengage same from ythe finger 8, whereupon the latch is turnedto the position of Figure 8, and upon release the spring holds same against the linger 8.
From the foregoingit willbe seen that the device Lvcan be easily and quickly operatedoby a slight depressing and turningnioveinent of,
the latch and in restoring the latch to latched position, itis merely necessary to turn the latch until the socket l0 registers with the finger 8, whereupon the spring will automatically effect engagement of these latter parts.
i Having thus described myinvention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is l. In combination with a spindle having i a flanged portion and a support, anarm secured tothe support and having a vertical perforation, a. stemfixedly secured at its lower end in the perforation and having its upper end formed with a depending finger spaced i from the body of the stem, a latching disk perforated at an eccentric point toreceive the stem and slidableand turnable thereon and having its upper face formed with a depression to. receive the fiee end of the finger to hold the disk against rotation, and a coil spring on the `stem seated on the arm and' abutting the under face of the disk to hold the latterengaged with the free end of the finger. 2. In combinationv with a spindle having a lianged portion anda support, an arm connected to the support, a stemfiXed to the arm and having a depending linger spaced therefrom, a latchiiigmeinber turnably and slidably mounted on the stem and having means to engage the finger so as to be held thereby against turning,y said latching member being formed so as to overlie the flanged portion when its said means is engaged with the finger thereby to prevent upward movement of the spindle, and a coil spring on the stem seated on the arm and engaged wit-h the latching member to hold the latter with its said means engaged with the linger. l

In combination ywith a support and a spindle having a ledge, a vertical stem onthe support, a latcliing disk having an eccentric perforation slidably and turnably received on the stein and having a keeper on its upper side face, a member on the stein engaging the disk and releasablyreceived in the keeper to Lhold the disk against outward sliding and also against rotation on the stem, and a e for holding the disk against said f coil sprin member, the keeper being disengageable from said member by depression of the disk. n
