I FILE Filed Jan 31, 1927 Patented Apr. 16, 1929.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
FILE.
Application filed January 31, 1927. Serial No. 164,963.
This invention relates to files primarily adapted to remove gaggles and burs from the bores of pipes and tubes after the same have been cut to prevent the accumulation of extraneous matter and clogging thereof.
Another object of the invention comprehends a guide member for the file.
A further object contemplates a handle member joining and rotatingthe guide and file to carry out the purpose of the invent on.
With the above and other objects in view, the invention further consists of the following novel features and details of construction to be hereinafter more fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawing, and pointed out in the appended claim.
In the drawing Figure 1 is a side elevatlon of the invention While in use.
Figure 2 is a fragmentary longitudinal sectional view taken therethrough.
Figure 3 is a vertical sectional view taken through a portion of the invention Referring to the drawing in detail, wherein like characters of reference denote corresponding parts, the reference character 10 indicates a tubular body portion provided with an enlarged shoulder 11 of similar configuration upon one end thereof. bard body portion is provided with a cylmdrical bore 12 communicating with a rectangular shaped bore 13 extending the remaining por-. tion of the length of the body portion and through said shoulder, the purpose of which will be readily apparent. Thap the body portion adjacent the s ioulder and upon the outer surface thereof is knurled as indicated at 14 to provide a multiplicity of file teeth. A bolt member 15 provided with rectangular and cylindrical portions 16 and 17 respectively are fitted within the bores 13 and 12 to effect simultaneous rotation of the body portion and a crank arm or operating lever 18 also carried upon the rectangular portion 16 of the bolt member.
portion of In carrying out the invention the body portion is inserted within the bore of a pipe that is smaller in diameter in contradistinction to the dimensions of the bore of the pipe to permit a degree of play whereby the file may be easily operated. The body portion is inserted Within the pipe an appreciable distance to engage the knurled portion 14 with the gaggles or burs upon the inner periphery of the pipe after the same has been cut. Successive rotations of the bod portion imparted by movement of the operating lever 18 will cut away and remove the gaggles whereby the bore of a pipe will be even and no obstructions apparent at the union or juncture of associatlon of several.
pipes which may ordinarily tend to cause the collection of extraneous deposits, such existing condition frequently results in the clogging of an entire line;
The invention is susceptible of various changes in its form, proportions and minor details of construction, and the right is herein reserved to make such changes as properly fall within the scope of the appended claim.
Having described the invention, what is claimed is A file comprising a cylindrical body portion provided with cylindrical and rectangular shaped communicating bores, an enlarged shoulder carried upon one end of the body portion, that portion of the body adjacent said shoulder being knurled upon the outer surface thereof, the extremity of the body beyond the knurled plain guiding portion, a bolt member having cylindrical and rectangular portions received within said bores, and a brindle member carried upon the rectangular portion of the bolt member adapted to impart rotation to the body portion. I
In testimony whereof I afiix my signature.
ALEX BRADLEY.
