UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
NAIL IULLIER.
Application filed March 9, 1927. Serial No. 174,034.
This invention relates to improvements in nail pullers and its object is to provide such a device that is of simple construction positive and eflicient in operation and cheap to manufacture.
With the foregoing and other objects in view the inventionconsists in the combination and arrangement of parts to be hereinafter fully described, pointed out in the appended claims and illustrated in the accompanying drawing which forms a part of this application and in which Fig. 1 is a view of the tool illustrating its application.
Fig. 2 is a head-end view of the tool.
Like reference characters denote corresponding parts in both views.
The reference numeral 1 denotes a metallic bar formed with the screw threads 2 and ter- 0 minating at one end in the rounded head. 3
provided with the spur 4. A portion 5 of the bar is of diminished diameter and is provided at one end with the handle 6.
Mounted to travel over the threaded portion 2 of the bar is the tubular interiorly threaded head 7 which is formed with the curved bifurcated claw 8 adapted for engagement with a nail 9 to extract the same from a body 10 as shown in Fig. 1.
In operation the spur 4 is thrust into the body 10 from which the nail is to be extracted, the head 7 then being disposed in a position upon the bar 1 contiguous to the rounded head 3 so that the claw 8 may be placed in engagement with the head of the nail. By now roand a claw carried by saidmember.
tating the bar 1 by means of its handle the head 7 may be caused to travel upwardly, or away from the rounded head 3, thus withdrawing the nail. The device is capable of use, also, as an ordinary claw hammer but in cases when difliculty in extracting the nail is found the tool may be operated by rotating the handle 6 as described.
IV hat is claimed is 1. In a nail puller, a bar having a screw threaded portion, a spur at the threaded end of said bar, a handle at the opposite end of said bar, a head threaded upon the said bar, and a bifurcated curved claw integral With said head.
2. In a nail puller, a bar having a screw threaded portion, a rounded head at the threaded end of said bar, a spur carried by said head, a handle for said bar, a tubular member threaded upon said bar, and a claw carried by said head.
3. In a nail puller, a bar having a screw threaded portion, a spur at one end of said bar, a tubular member threaded upon said bar,
6O 4. I11 a nail puller, a bar having a screw threaded portion, a rounded head at one end of said bar, a spur carried by said head, a tubular member threaded upon said bar for movement longitudinally thereover toward and away from said rounded head, and a claw integral with said tubular member.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own I have hereto affixed my signature.
AUGUST WVASS.
