GIUSEPPE TERRANOVA, OF NEW HAVEN, CONNECTICUT.
YDENTALYAMALGAM MIXER.
Application filed June 29,
This invention relates to improvement, in dental amalgam mixers. In mixing amalgain for placed in a capsule, or other container, and shaken by manual or mechanicalmeans to properly combine the ingredients, and this invention relates particularly to mechanical means for shaking a container, the object being to provide a simple device which may be connectedto an ordinary dental engine or applied to the spindle of a lathe, and the invention consists in the construction as hereinafter described and particularly recited in the claims. r
In the accompanying drawings Fig. 1 is a front view of a dental amalgam mixerv constructed in accordance wth my 'invention;
Fig. 2 is a. side View of the same Fig. 3 is an enlarged sectional view of the same; and v 4 is a detached view of the head and spindle. v
In carrying out my invention, I employ a ball-like head 5 having an annular camgroove 6. This head is mounted on a spindle7 which extends through a frame 8 carrying a base-block 9 upon which the head turns, the lower part of the head and the upper face of the block having raceways 10 and 11 for balls 12 Screwed onto the frame 8 is a housing-cap 13 formed with a slot 14. A; rocker 15 sets over the cap and enters the slot 14, and mounted on pins 27 carried 10 the ends of this rocker are rollers 16 and 1; enteringthe cam-groove 6. Connected with the rocker are two spring-arms18 and 19 carrying cups 20 and 21 at their outer ends, between which a capsule or other container 22 may be seated. Turned into the lower end of the frame 8 is a handle 23 and through which the spindle 7 also extends, and this handle is chambered to clear the chuck of a dental engine with which the spindle 7 may be connected in the usual way. The ingredient-s for the amalgam filling mixture are placed in the capsule 22 and this capsule placed between the cups 20 and 21. The de vice is held by the handle 23. and the spindle 7 connected witha dental enginewhich' will turn the spindle and thereby rotate the head 5, so as to turn the rocker 15 from side to side, and thisproduces a corresponding movement of the capsule except that as the capsule is further away from the pivotal point, the extent of movement will be greater, and as dental fillings, the ingredients are 1927. Serial No. 202,257.
this movement is rapid, soon properly mixed.
the ingredients. are
'tached from the frame 8 and attached to a hub 24 at one side of the cap 13, which will be 1 provided'with a threaded recess to receive the threaded inner end 26 of the handle. Thus, the frame can be supported and held against rotation, while the spindle is bein revolved, the movement of the arms 18 an 19 being the same as when the device is operated from a dental engine. 7,
This device is extremely simple inconstruc tion and effective in operation and readily adapted for use with a dental engine or lathe.
I claim: I 1. A dental amalgam mixer, comprising a'frame,a head mounted on a spindle extending through said frame, said head formed with an annular cam-groove, a slotted cap connected with said frame and enclosing said head, a rocker entering the slot in the cap and provided at its ends with rollers traveling in the cam-groove in the head, spring arms connected with said rocker, and means for mounting a'capsule between the ends of said arms.
2. A- dent-al amalgam mixer, comprising a head having an annular cam-groove, a frame to support said head, said head provided with a spindle extending through said frame, a
handle detachably connected with said frame, a slotted cap attached to said frame and enclosing said head, a rocker entering the slot inthe cap and provided at its ends with rollers traveling in said groove, and
two spring arms connected with said rocker,
said arms provided at their outer ends with I seats for a container for amalgam.
3. A dental amalgam mixer, comprising a head having a cam-groove, a frame support:
ing said head, a spindle connected with said head and extending through said frame, a
chambered handle detachably connected'with the inner end of said frame, a slotted cap attached to said frame and enclosing said head,- a' rocker entering the slot in the cap and,
carrying rollers at its endstraveling in said groove, spring-arms 1 connected with said for a container for amalgam, said frame formed on one side .with a threaded opening for the connection thereto of the said handle.
' rocker, and seats at the outer ends of the arms 4'. A dental amalgam mixer, comprising a frame, a bearing-block in said frame, a head mounted on a spindle extending through said frame balls between'said head and block, said head formed with an annular earn- 5 wroove, a slotted cap connected with said mine and enclosing said head, a rocker entering the slot 111 the cap and provlded at its ends with rollers traveling in the ca1n gr0ove in the head, spring arms connected With said rocker, and means for mounting a capsule 10 between the ends of said arms.
I In testimony whereof; I have signed this specification.
GIUSEPPE E. TERRANOVA.
