Patented J uile 25, 1918.

mman-s s.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented June 25, 1918.
Application filed March 16 1918. Serial No, 222.883.
' 1 l) all iii/tom. it may concern.
Be it known that I, Dr. Joan ltouon, a citizen of the United States, residing at New 1 York, in the county of New York and State of New Yorl have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Air-Brushes, of which the followiir is a specification.
This invention re ates to air brushes, and more especially its object: is to provide the same with a removable and adjustable cup containing a number of cells for the storage of color, whereby the brush may be used to apply one color and then the cup changed in position so that the brush will apply another color.
()ther objects are brought out by the following specitioatioh, and reference is made to the drawings, wherein Figure l is a plan view of an air brush with this improvement applied,
Fig. 2 is a side elevation thereof, and
Fig. 3 is an enlarged transverse vertical section through the improvement or attachment alone.
For purposes of reference only I will ate that the air brush herein shown comprises the usual handle l-l tapering to a tip T at. its front end, A is the air inlet. N is the nipple to which the color cup is ordinarily attached. and (1 is the control. In the present case I remove the col r cup and apply the parts now to be described.
The numeral 11 designates a substantially horizontal support having at one extremity a claw 2 intended to be passed over and astridc the nipple N, and the numeral 3 designates a collar intended to slide on the support and draw the arms oi the claw together more tightly around the nipple to hold the support thereon. The outer end of the latter passes through an opening t in the upper end or head of a pivot post 5. which head 6 is slightly enlarged as best seen in. Fig; 3 and for a purpose yet to appear, and a set screw 7 passes downward into said head and engages the support.- 1 to hold the post in adjusted positions thereon or to permit the post to be removed therefrom when desired.
Instead of a single color cup I use one em ploying a plurality of cells numbered 10 in Fig. l. and as these cells are. duplicates of each other the description of one'will --ullice for all. They are revolubly sup ported upon the head 6 of the-post 5. and collectively they constitute the cup hich will rotate around said post when no cell or its outlet nozzle engages the air brush head. Each cell 10 contains a tube 11 extendin obliquely upward along the outer side or the cell and turned outward into a nozzle 12, its lower end being by preference closed by a removable plug 13 which may be withdrawn for cleaning out the tube from time to time; and the body of the tube just above this plug has an inlet port ll into which the color" or pigment within the cell enters the tube when suction is set up in the latter.- Obviously the tip of the nozzle 12 is intended to be projected into the nipple N when any particular cell is disposed next. to the air brush structure, and at this time the cup as a whole is moved toward said structure and the head slidalong the support, so that the final setting up of the set screw 7 holds all parts in assembled position. The air brush may now be used as ordinarily QXllf JlOYECl, controlled by pressure of the finger at the point C as usual, and whatever color is within the cell which is connected with the nipple. to be projected at the tip T in a manner well understood. As soon as the operator desires to use another color, he has but to loosen the set screw 7, slide the head 6 outward on the support 1, revolve the cup until the proper cell comes opposite the nipple, and then restore the parts to the position shown and described. It is not necessary that he shall have different colors in the several cells, as hev may have them all full of one color if preferred, or in fact he may use the attachment as he pleases. I do not wish to be limited to the details of construction. and the materials and proportions of parts are not necessary to this specific-a tion.
What is claimed as new is 1. An air brush attachment comprising a support having at one end means for tasteln ing it to the handle of the air brush. an upright post pierced with a transverse opening adjustably mounted on the other end ot said support. and a cellular up rotatably mounted on the post beneath said support. for the purpose set forth.
2. An air brush attachment comprising a support having a claw at. one end. a collar slidably mounted on the support l'or passing the arms of the claw toward each other. an upright post having a head pierced with a transverse openin slid-ably mounted M the other end of said support. a set sci-er purpose set forth.
insaid head intersecting said opening, and a cellular cup-rotatably mounted on the head of the postbeneath said support, for the support, a cellular cup rotatably' mounted around said post beneath the support, and an outlet nozzle in each cell adapted selectively to be projected into said nipple-when,
the attachment ifiwapplied to an air brush.
- mounted, and means for supporting the post 4. Inan air rush attachment, the combination with a cellular color cup, an outlet tube in each cell thereof having a radially projecting nozzle at its upper end and an inlet port near. its lower end, and a plug removably closing its lower extremity; of an upright post on which said cup is rotatably from the air brush structure.
5. In an air brush attachment, the" combination with a cellular, color cup, an outlet tube in each cellthereof having a radially projecting nozzle at its upper end and an inlet port near its lower en and a pl-ng removably closing its lower extremity; of an upright post at the axial center of, the cup1 and having an enlarged head on which sai cupis rotatably mounted, the head being provided with a transverse opening and having an upright opening intersectingithe same, a set screw in the last-named opening, and a support in the transverse opening under the set screw and extending over the cup and radially thereof, for'the purpose set forth.
In. testimony whereof I afiix my signature in presence of two witnesses. 1
DR. JOHN ROUGE.
