UNITED s'IATES PATENT OFFI E.
PARTRIOK J. CLARK AND J OSEPH KINTZ, OF WEST MERIDEN, CONN.
IMPROVEMENT IN LANTERNS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 168,616, dated October 11, 1875; application filed August 28, 1875.
. To all whom it may concern:
! Be it known that we, PARTRIOK J. CLARK and JOSEPH KINTZ, of West Meriden, in the .county of New Haven and State of Connecticut, have invented a new and Improved Lantern, of which the following is a specification:
The invention willtirst be described in connection with drawing, and then pointed out in claims.
Figure l is a sectional elevation of our improved lantern. Fig. 2 is a side elevation of the top, and Fig. 3 is a side elevation of a portion of the bottom.
Similar letters of reference indicate correspondin g parts.
A is the metal cap, and B the yoke for holding it down on the globe O, for securing the latter on the lantern. This yoke we now propose to pass through the sides of the cap, and attach to it a nut, D, and to the cap attach a screw, E, for holding the cap down on and raise it from the globe, making slots F in the sides of the cap to allow it to rise and fall on the yoke. G represents the stand for the support of the globe, which we propose to make of the wires H of the guard or branches thereof, substantially as shown, whereby we simplit'y the cost, and at the same time make a neat and light construction. On thisstand we attach the metal base-plate I, for the globe, and also for the connection of the lamp and globe together, and we make a large center hole, J, in it, for readily introducing the burner K, and on the burner we fit the perforated disk L, so as to close said opening when the burner is inserted. This plate I also has openings outside of disk L, to admit air to the burner. M is a cap or ring, with a large hole in the center fitted around the burner a little above the plate I, in such manner that it concentrates the air under the flame,as will be clearly understood by inspection of Fig. 1.
Having thus described our invention, we claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- 1. The yoke B, passing through the metal cap A, in combination with the nut D and a screw, E, in the top of the cap,.substantially as specified.
2. The metal cap, having the yoke passing through slotted holes in its sides, in combination with the globe O, fastening-screw E, and
nut D, substantially as specified.
3. The combination, with burner K, cap M. and perforated disk L, of a baseplate, I, having a large central hole, J, and other holes on the outside of disk, as and for the purpose specified.
