Description

UNITED STATES 1,675,793 PATENT OFFICE.
GUILLERMO DIAZ DEI.. CASTILO, 0F HABANA, CUBA.
SAFETY RAZOR.
Application led September I5, 1926, Serial No'. 135,658, and in Cuba April 19, 1.926.
. This invention relates to safetyrazors and l 1now known, is approximately of the same weight or slightly heavier and can vbe used on all its four sharpened edges.
A further object is the provision of a razor blade having its four edges sharpenedy and marked with ordinate characters of reference, so as to show the order in which they must be used.
The invention is described in accordance with the figures of the annexed drawings, in which:
Fig. 1 is a side elevation of the safety razor, partly in section on line 1-:1 of Fig. 2.
Fig. 2 is a horizontal plan view of the Same. Y
Fig. 3 is a. top plan view of same, the handle and cover plate of the razor being removed. l
Fig. 4 is a detailed perspective view showing the supporting plate of the razor and separately the handle, partly cut-away.
Fig. 5 is a detailed perspective view 4showing the cover plate of the razor and Fig-f6 is a detailed perspectiveview showing the razor blade.
This safety razor presents in a way similar to that already known an arched supporting or bottom plate 1 provided with a central threaded stem 2 andtwoadditional plain stems 3 and 4 in transversal alignment with the threaded stem 2, an arched cover or top plate' provided with three holes 6, 7
` and 8 transversally aligned andarranged to register vertically with the three stems 2, 3 and 4, and a handle 9 adapted to screw by' means of a threaded hollow portion at its lower end, on the center threaded stem 2. But the supporting plate l and the cover plate 5 are substantially square in their outline, that is to say, their width equals 'approximately their length, and supportingv plate 1 having its stems 2, 3 and 4 to. one side of its middle transverse line at approximately one third of the length of one of its extreme edges, and in a similar way are bored in the cover plate 5 three holes 6, 7 and 8, which are to register with the three- ' stems 2, 3 and 4;-,
The razor blade 11 is made of a iflat eX.- ible late of a substantially square form, that 1s to say, its widthequals practically its length, and its four edges are sharpened, having a big center opening 12 in` order to lighten its weight, this opening being preferably uare in section, but with Aits sides diagonal y arranged with respect -to the sides of the blade 11, and about that opening 12, there are four pairs of holes 13, 13, `14, 14, v 15, 15, and 16, 16, in rows parallel to the sides of said opening 12, so that each pair of opposite holes corresponds to the same transverse or longitudinal line, as for instance, a hole 13 in transversal line with avhole 16, a hole 14 in transversal line with a hole 15, and so on, arranged at a distance toV each other that equals that between the two side stems 3 and 4. In this way, in curving the razor blade 11 on the bottom plate 1, to conform thereto, two opposite holes transversally aligned for instance, 14 and 15,' as
pointed out in Fig. 3, will come to'register vertically overthe two stems 3 and 4;, the center stem 2 passing through the center openin 12 of the razor blade 11 close to one of its angles. This will happen in each ofl the four positionsvof the razor blade 11 lwith respect to the bottom plate 1 and the cover plate 5. The curved position of razor blade .11 will be maintained by cover plate 5, when inserted on side stems 3 and 4.- over razorblade 11 and then handle 9 is screwed. on center'stem 2, as is well known.'
It will be easily understood that with the. holes of razor blade 11 arranged as just' explained, the position of same may be so chan d that one of the four sharpened edges of the razor blade 11 will always lie -on the-supporting side of the safety razor.
In order' to lfacilitate the` use of the razor -blade 11, it is marked onits four shapened edges lwith the order numbers 1, 2, 3 and 4, placed closed to the middle of eachvedge, as shown in Fig. 3, thus permittingy that the user of the shaving machine may -follow the same order in placing-each sharpened edge of the razor` blade against the operating si e of the razor.
Instead of square blades 11, this razorcan be adapted'to the use l0f Gillette or other types ofblades. l
Having thus described the invention, what Iclaim is:
1. A safet razor comprisin supportin .and'cover p ates and a razorI lade lace having its four edges sharpened and series of holes distributed in square form so .thattheni, all ot which are o between them, all ci which are of practically square shape in their outline, the supporting and cover plates having their respective clamping stems and holes to one side of their middle transverse lines, and the razor blade at least three of them will register vertically with the stems of the supporting plate and the holes of the cover plate in the four dit'-l its four edges sharpened, a big Center open ing and a` series ofholes distributed in square forni about the center opening, so ythat in the fojir positions that can` be h ravages adopted by the razor blade, two of said hole-fs i will register vertically`with the Side stems of the bottom plate atthe same time that the center stem of same registers vertically with the centeno ening of t e razor blade.
3. LAbi e for safety razors which consists in a flat sharpened and aving a big center Opening of a substantially square form, the sides of which lie diagonally with respect to the sharpened edges of the razor blade, and four pairs of holes arranged about the center opening in rows parallel to 'the sides of same, so that in each of the four positions that can be, adopted by the blade in the safety razor, there may be two holes 'transvorsally` aligned across the center opening and at a distance betweenl each other that equals the separation between the side stems of the lower plate of the safety razor.
In witness whereof I affix my signatlre.
