Description

l. B. KLEINERT.
Head-Muff.
No, 167,543. P atentedSept.7 ,l875.
-PEI' RS, PHOTO-LITBOGRAPHER. WASMNGTDN, D Cv ISAAC B. KLEINERT, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
IMPROVEMENT IN HEAD-M UFFS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 167,543 dated September 7, 1875; application filed July 21, 1875.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, ISAAC B. KLEINERT, of New 'York city, in the county of New York and in the State of New York, have invented cer: tain new and useful Improvements in Throat, Head, and Nose Protectors; and do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and xact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, making a part of this specification, in which- Figure l is a plan view of myimproved protector spread out, and Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the same in position upon the head of a person.
Letters of like name and kind refer to like parts in each of the figures.
The design of my invention is to enable the neck, nose, and rear portion of the head of a person to be protected from the cold; and it consists, as a new article of manufacture, in the hereinafter-described protector, constructed in the manner and for the purpose substantially as specified.
In the annexed drawing, A represents the body of my device, having in plan view the form shown in Fig. 1, so that when placed in position it shall inclose the neck, rear side of the head, and the throat of its wearer, leaving the face above the chin uncovered.
The protector shown is open at its front side, and at such point its overlapping edges are provided with button-holes a and a, and two rows of buttons, B and B, which enable said edges to be secured together, and the size of said protector to be varied to suit a larger or smaller neck. From its upper edges two elastic bands, 0 and G, extend over the head and cause its upper portion to maintain its position, and to closely embrace the head of the wearer. Attached at one end permanently to one side of the protector A is a band, D, which extends horizontally across upon a line with the lower portion of the nose of the wearer, and, covering the same, is attached by means ot'a button, 61, to the opposite side of said protector. A suitable eyeleted opening, E, formed in and through each side of the protector directly over the ear of the wearer, enables him to hear with nearly the same ease as though said protector was removed.
The device is now complete, and affords complete protection from cold to the parts covered. It is simple in construction, easily applied to or removed from position, and can be furnished at a cost no greater than that of an ordinary knit muffler.
I am aware that the several parts of my de vice are old, and do not claim the same separately.
Having thus fully set forth the nature and merits of my invention, what I claim is As a new article of manufacture, the hereinbefore described protector, consisting of the body A, provided with the buttonholes a and a, and buttons B and B, the elastic bands U and G, the nose-band D d, and the openings E and E, substantially as and for the purpose specified.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing I have hereunto set my hand this 15th day of July, 1875.
ISAAC B. KLEINERT.
