UNITE STATES PATENT QFF IMPROVEMENT IN COMBINED HORSE-COLLARS AND HAMES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 166,932, dated August 24, 1875 application filed June 17, 1874.
for pleasure or draft horses; and it consists of a flexible continuous flat spring-st el band covered with leather and stuffed upon the inside, the flexible continuous flat spring-steel band being flared outwardly and curved so as to lit t-heneck of ahorse, and is provided with a staple for connecting a pole-strap, Us for the reins, and screw-bolts forconnecting the tug-straps to the same. By means of the flat elastic springsteel, which forms the foundation, the collar and hames fit the neck of a horse more easily, yielding so as to conform to the muscles in the same, thus presenting a perfect fit or equal bearing upon all parts of the same, at all times when in use, thus preventing chafing and scalding. As the width or surface-bearing is so much less than those now in use, less heat is occasioned, and, consequently, less sweat is produced.
Figure 1 is a front plan View of my invention. Fig. 2 is a vertical central section of same.
A represents the flexible continuous flat spring-steel band. B is the staple into which a pole-strap may be attached. 0 O are the Us for the reins; D D, bolts for connecting the tug-straps. E is a covering of leather or other suitable material, while F is stuffing of hair or wool, or other yielding material.
Thus I am enabled to produce a new article of manufacture which obviates the many objections to those heretofore constructed for this purpose.
The spring-steel band, and its peculiar form and adaptation to yield and fit the neck, is an essential feature in my invention.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim is As a new article of manufacture, a horsecollar as constructed, consisting of the flexible continuous flat spring-steel band A, provided with staple B, bolts D D, Ds C (J, covering E, and stuffing F, all combined and arranged substantially in the manner described, as and for the purposes set forth.
AULAY MAGAULAY.
