Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 93,575, dated July 24, 1877; application filed December 13, 1876.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, MARSHALL TUELEY, of Council Bluffs, in the county of lottawattamie, and in the State of Iowa, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Hames 5 and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof.' reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of refer-1 ence marked thereon, making a part of this specification.

The nature of my invention consists in the construction and arrangement of a hame7 as will be hereinafter more fully set forth.

In order to enable others skilled in the art to which my invention appertains to make and use the same, I will now proceed to describe its constructionand operation, referring to the annexed drawing, in which- Figure 1 is a perspective view of my haine; and Figs. 2, 3, and 4 are detailed views of parts thereof.

A represents the hame, made of hollow metal or tubing, bent in proper shape. On this haine is a sleeve or collar, B, capable of being moved up and down thereon, and held at any point desired by means of a set-screw, a, so that the draft can be set higher or lower, as required.

On one side of the sleeve B is formed ahollow boss or projection, b, into which is screwed a staple, C, to which the trace or hame-tug is attached. This staple, being screwed into the boss or projection on the slide, can be taken out and replaced, when worn out, at pleasure.

On the upper end of the hanne Ais screweda collar, D, in which is fastened a suitable plug, or the collar may be closed at its upper end, and in the same is screwed or otherwise fastened a ring, E, through which the lines are worked, thus enabling the driver to handle unruly horses to better advantage by having more purchase, and saving the lines from being entangled.

On the lower end of the haine A is screwed a collar, D', and in the outer or lower end thereof' is screwed a staple, G, through which the hame-strap is to be passed. This staple G can thus be taken out and replaced at pleasure.

H is the hame-tug, provided with a metal loop, I, placed in the staple C, and the tug is provided at its inner end with a projecting pad, J, made of leather or metal, and placed under the staple C of the haine, so that the draft or pressure of the collar will be close to the rim of the collar and near the horses neck, to avoid the trace striking the outside or the bulge ofthe collar.

Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-

l. The combination of the tubular hanle A, the adjustable sleeve B, having set-screw a, hollow boss b, and the detachable screw-staple G, all constructed substantially as and for the purposes herein set forth.

2. The staple C, screwed into a boss or projection on the sleeve B, as and for the purposes herein set forth.

3. The combination of the tubular haine A, screw-collar D', and staple G, screwed into said collar, as and for the purposes herein set forth.
