UNITED STATESl PATENT OFFICE.
HENRY T. BESTOR, OF SAN lFRANCISCO, CALIFORNIA.
IMPROVEMENT IN SHELVING FOR STORES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 166,248, dated August 3, 1875; application filed 4 June 12, 1875.
To all 'whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HENRY T. BEsToR, of San Francisco, in the county of San Francisco and State of California, have invented a new and useful Improvement in StoreShelving, of which the following is a specification:
In this improved construction of store-shelving the carrying-girder is set back, so that the .front finish comes tlush with the front of the supporting'posts, to allow of metal bars being suspended on the face of the tnish for the intei-mediate support of the shelves, and so that covering columns may be applied in a simple way to hide the rod, with their capitals extending to the brackets which extend to the cornlce.
' Figure 1 is a front elevation of my improved shelving. Fig. 2 is a section on line w .fr of Fig. l, and Fig. 3 is a section on line y y.
Similar letters .of reference indicate corresponding parts.
A is the carrying-girder, which is' arranged on the supports B sufficiently back of the front for the front fin-ish C to be iush therewith. The girder extends over several spaces, in which the shelves c arel to be supported without the aid of posts B by suspension from the girder, for which I use the suspendingbars D, which are attached to the girder and hang down the front of the nish C and the front of the shelves, to connect the bearers E, which are attached to the wall at the back end. F represents the covering columns for the bars D, which extend up to the cornice G, and entirely hide the bars D. The. bearers H, which support the shelves at the posts B, are attached to them, and the lower intermediate bearers E are formed by a portion of the hanging-bar D bent back to the wall and secured to it. These bearers may be let in the wall iush, if desired; also in the under side of the shelves.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by [letters Patent- 1. The carrying-girder A and the front finish C, arranged in combination with the posts B, to suspend the hangers D, and receive the covering columns F, as specified.
2. The metal suspension-bars D and bearers E f'orthe shelves, combined with the carrying-girder A and facing C, substantially as specified. i
3. The suspension-bars placed outside' of the finish, to receive the covering columns and their capitals outside of the line of finish, substantially as specilied.
i HENRY T. BES'IOR.
