The present invention relates broadly to mining tools and implements, and more particularly to mine drills or augersl It has heretofore been customary in the art to which this invention relates to provide the threaded boxings for the threaded feed bars of the drills or angers with pins, keys or clamps adapted to hold the pivoted sections of the boxings in closed position about the feed bars. Due to the conditions under which apparatus of this character is used, independent holding means of this character is objectionable as the keys, pins and clamps become loose or distorted through use due to the fact that poor lighting conditions frequently result in the miners striking the keys or clamps unevenly, or become lost when detached. r
By the present invention, thesedisadvantages are entirely overcome, and there is provided means which is easily operated for holding the pivotally connected sections of the threaded boxings in closed position about the feed bars. Also, with the present invention, the holding means is rendered effective automatically upon the positioning of the boxings in the supports provided therefor. i i I The foregoing and other objects of the present invention, together with their at: tendant advantages, will be apparent as the invention becomes better understood by reference to the accompanying specification and drawings forming a part thereof, itbeing premised that changes may be made in the details of construction and manner of operation without departing from the spirit of my invention or the scope of my broader claims. Referring more particularly to Figures 1 to 4, both inclusive, of the drawings, there is illustrated an apparatus embodying a post comprising side bars 2 having their opposite ends connected by suitable heads 3. Carried by the upper head 3 is an adjustable jack screw 4 adapted to be forced into engage ment with the roof of a mine shaft, while carried by the lower head 3 is an adjustable foot 5. y
Adjustable vertically on the sidebars 2 is a slide 6 adapted to be clamped in adjusted position by a suitable clamping device 7. These features of the invention are well known in the-art, and constitute no essential part of the present invention. The slide 6,
however, has extending transversely thereof a pin 8, adjacent the opposite ends of which are shoulders or bosses '9. Adaptedto be supported by theslide 6 is a threaded box- I ing comprising pivotally connected sections- 10. Each of these sections'has projecting between the oppositely disposed faces of the bosses 9, whereby when the threaded boxing threaded feed bar 14 carrying an operating crank 15 at one end thereof and a driller auger 16 at the opposlte end;

4. In an apparatus of the class described, a feed screw, a boxing support comprising spaced side members, and a sectional boxing adapted to be carried bysaid members, each section of the boxing having projections the outermost side and end portions of which are engaged by the boxing support, whereby the sections are held in closed position by said members when carried thereby, substantially as described.
5. A boxing for a mine drill feed screw having two similar members hinged to each other, each member having a bearing lug arranged to engage a bearing on a support to permit the boxing to be rocked about an axis transverse to the axis of the feed screw, and a bearing face on each lug in a plane perpendicular to the axis about which the boxing is rocked, said faces being spaced at a conslderable distance apart and arranged to engage similarly spaced faces on the support for retaining the boxing closed, sub stantially as described. 7
6. In an apparatus of the character described, a feed screw, a boxing comprisingrelatively movable sections, means on each oi said sections adapted to cooperate with a boxing supporting means, and boxing my hand.
