- With the above and other objects in view as will be hereinafter apparent, the invention consists in general of certain novel details of construction and combinations of parts hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings and specifically claimed.

In the accompanying drawings like characters of reference indicate like parts in the 2 several views, and: Figure 1 is a side elevation of the improved boot showing the upper with its front and rear portions connected.

In forming this boot usual sole 10 and heel 11, the upper being secured as is ordinarily done on the sole. This upper consists of a front portion 12 made of a single piece of leather or the like and a rear portion 13 consisting of two halves stitched together at the back as indicated at 14. The lower parts of the forward edges of the rear portion and the rear edges of the front portion are united by stitching 1.5 which extends only a short distance up from the sole, the edges above the stitching being cut away to lie in spaced relation and provide a slit at each side reaching to the top of the upper. Both the front and'rear portions are provided with linings indicated respectively at 16 and 17 and these linings are secured to the above mentioned edges and to the top of the shoe by stitchings 18. It will be noted that the slit extends to a point just above the forward edge of the heel and from apoint midway of the front and back of the boot upper. Under these circumstances a boot is provided which is very easy to wear as there are no rough places or seams on the interior which tend to chafe the feet, and it will be obvious that the boot can be readily placed on the foot or removed since the entire forward portion of the up per separates freely from the rear portion of the boot and affords ample room for admitting the foot.

There has thus been provided a simple and efficient device of the kind described and forv the purpose specified.

It is obvious'that minorchanges may be made in the form and construction or the.

invention without departing from the material spirit thereof. It is not, therefore, desired to confine the invention to the exact form' herein shown and described, but it is desired 'to include all such as properly come within the scope claimed.

Havingthusdescribed the invention, what is claimedas new, is: V

1. A boot having an upper provided with front and rear portions separated from eac other on opposite sides from the top of the upper to points adjacent the arch portion of the wearers foot, means to detachably connect the respective front and rear edges, and a lining fittin within and secured to the rear portion of t e upper and provided with extensions overlapping the inner faces of the respective sides of the front portionof said upper.

2. A boot having a sole and a two part upper secured thereto, sald upper comprising front and rear portions stitched together for a short distance on each side from the bottom up and free from each other from the stitching to the top of the upper, the edges of said front and rear portions above the stitching beingin spaced relation to each other on respective sides-ofsaid up er, and strips carrying interlocking releasa 1e fastening members secured to said edges to close the space between the edges and to connect the front and rear portions of said upper. v

3. A boot having a sole and a two part upper secured thereto, said u per comprlslng front and rear portions stitc ed together for a short distance on each side from thebottom up and free from each other from the stitching to the top of the upper, the edges f said front and rear portions above the stitching being in spaced relation to each other on respective sides of said upper, strips carrying interlocking releasable fastening members secured to said edges to close the space between the edges and to connect the front and rear portions of said upper, and a lining fitting within and secured to the rear portion of the upper and provided with tongue extensions overlapping the inner faces of the respective sides of the front portion of said upper.
