BRooM BRIDLE.
V.Lipplicaticm fuecioctober 19, 192e..y serial No. 142,721.
My invention relates to improvements in broom. bridles and has for its object to provide a device of this character which when, placed in operative position onl the broom will Aprevent the broom-straws Afrom spreading and will keep the broom in proper shape, as a whole, wherebyY it may be used longer. l
A further object of the invention is to provide a device of the above-mentioned character having means for securely clamping the device on the broom, so it will not be jarred loose therefrom. f Y
A further object of the invention is to provide a device of the abovemen tioned character which is. extensible so that it may be adjusted to fit brooms of various sizes.
Another object of the invention is to provide a device of the above-mentioned character which is simple and durable in construction, reliable and eflicient inr operation and inexpensive tomanufacture. 'j
Other objects and advantages of the i 'invention will beapparent during the course of the following description.
, In the accompanying drawing, forming .a
part of this specification and in which like -V numerals are employed to designate like parts throughout the same. Y
Fig. 1, is a front elevation of a broom with my invention applied thereto.
p Fig. 2,
invention.
Figure 3 is a horizontal sectional View on the line 3 3 of Figure 1.
i Figure 4: is a lvertical sectional view on the line 1-4 of Figure3.
is a perspective view, of the In the drawing, wherein'. for the pur-k pose of illustration, I have shown aprenumeral 5, denotes a conventional type of broom having the usual rows of stitching 6,
. at 12, to provide lugs 13 which are alined With the lugs 11 anddisposed at a slight v angle.
ferred embodiment of my invention, theV rIlhe clamping member'lll is composed of two corresponding sections 15 and 16, each sections are dis osed inoverla in@ relation b 3 with the slots registering andare fitted over the lugs 11 projecting from the section 8 of the base member. The outer ends of the sections 15 and 16 have their ends bentdownwardly, as at 18, adapted to overlap the lugs 13 ofthe base member when the clamping member is in position. A slot 19 is provided adjacent the bent ends 18 of the clamping member to receive the lugs 13 of the base member.
The upper ends of the lugs 11 and 13 are'each provided with a series of vertical aligned openings 2() to receive the locking rod 21. The locking rod extends through the openings of all the lugs, securely holding the clamping member upon the base member and has lits end 22 bent at an angle, to provide a handle 23, whereby the locking rod may be readily inserted or removed. A hook 24 hasl one end adapted for insert-ion in one of the slots 17 of the clamping member and its opposite end adapted to engage one of the rows of stitching 6 of the broom whereby the device may be adjusted longitudinally of the broom.
To apply the device, the base member is adjusted to fit the width of the broom and the lugs'11 are then pressed through the broomv straws. The clamping member is then yfitted over the opposite side of the broom and pressed downwardly so that the lugs 11 and 13 project through the slots 17, su ciently to enable the locking rod to be inserted vin the openings of the lugs and when released the expansion of the broom straws will force the clamping member tightly against the locking member, securely fastening the device upon the broom.
It is to be understood that the form of my invention herewith'shown and described 1s to be taken as a preferred example of the same and that certain changes in the size, shape and arrangement of the parts may be Inade without departing from the spirit of the invention or scope of the claims.
Having vthusV described my invention I claim 1. A broom bridle comprisinga base member having upstanding lugs yprovided with openings, a clamping member having a series of slots adapted to reoeive the lugs of `said base member, and a locking rod insertable through the openings of s aid lugs.
2. A broom bridle comprising en extensible base member having upstanding lugs provided With openings, an extensible clamp ing member having a series of slots adapted to receive said lugs, and a. lock-ing rod insertable through the openings of said lugs.
3. A broom bridle eoinprisin a base member 'havinga `series ofrupstan 'ingr lugs provided -withopeninga a clamping member having a kserieeof'slots adeptedto reeeive sali-d g"lugs Vand a :locking v"rod insertable thronghthe opel-lingey of said lugs, SaidV base and clamping members having overy lapping end-s. y
4. A broom bridle comprising `a, base member composed of extensible sections, one of said sections having a series of slots adapted $0 receive lugs bent upwardly from the other Section, a, clamping member composed of eX- tensible sections, each having a series of slots adapted to receive the lugs of the baise member, and a 'locking rod insertable through openings in said lugs, for securing-the clamping member in place.
n testimony whereof, I vaffix my signature `HRANT R. SHEKERJIAN.
