' SAFETY LID,
Application filed December 30, 1925. Serial No. 78,289; i
The present specification cpncerns a new lid or closure for all k1I1ClS-3f receptacles designed to contain liquids, pastes'or other substances in form of grains or powder.
lVitlithis new locking device, the maximum of economy is obtained, as well as a perfect coupling; it has furthermore the great advantage that it cannot be tampered with without leaving traces of such action, as it is absolutely necessary to mutilate the lid to be able to separate it from its seat.
For current use and if so desired, the receptacle can be covered with a supplementary capsule which protects the contents until consumed.
As will be seen further on, the invention is essentially consisting in the formation of an annular groove at the mouth or orifice of the receptacle or container into which is adjusted or fitted, by means of a convenient mould, a stamped lid, with corrugations at the edge and which presents a central prominence, by means of which a surrounding lateral band is formed, which can be easily cut for withdrawing the lid, using for this purpose an instrument which will be delivered with the receptacles, but which also can be substituted by any nail or similar pointed means. It is precisely this perforation which is the sign which remains as an indication that the receptacle has been opened and which as a metallic part is concerned, could only be concealed with great difficulty and still less erased, forming therefore an efficient guaranty, not only for the manufacturer, as it avoids that his goods can be adulterated with impunity as happens with ordinary containers, but also for the consumer as it is easy for him to know, at single sight, that the receptacle or container has been opened, which, as will be understood, is of great importance when liquids or articles for alimentary use are concerned.
For the better comprehension of this description, I add detailed drawings in which:
Figure 1 shows in perspective a safety lid for receptacles or containers, constructed as per my invention, which is shown closed and with instrument or opening lever in place.
Figure 2 is a level projection of the same locking device.
Figure 3 is a level projection of the capsule or lid, seen from above.
Figure 4 shows in elevation a vertical central cut-practised along the line as A-B of Figure Figure 5 shows in lateral elevation and as a constructive variation a neck specially made to receive, besides the lid with corrugations, a supplementary capsule which is shown in position.
Figure 6 shows the end of the neck with the groove and butts which enables it to hold the supplementary capsule.
Figure 7 is a level projection of the mentioned capsule where the small juttings will be seen, which in combination with the groove hold it to the neck.
In said drawings, 1 is the main part of the closing device which can form part of the material of the receptacle or container or, which also can be fixed to it in a way which will impede its being separated by the public. Said main part has as outlet an orifice into which a groove has been made which will augment, at its extremity, the diameter of the orifice and into which the lid or capsule 2 will fit. Said groove shows two characteristic points and these are: the interior elevation 3 which is the point against which will operate as an hermetic coupling the raised conical part of the capsule and the annular outjutting nerve of the capsule, as soon as opened through the action of the mould with which it is fastened to the main part 1.
The lid or capsule 2 contains the corrugations 5 and an annular groove 6 with which the central, raised, conical part is formed. It is precisely the interior wall of bigger diameter than the groove 6 which adjusts to and closes hermetically the interior edge of the orifice of a minor diameter, formed in the main part 1.
As already mentioned, by means of a mould or other adequate means, the capsule is fastened, compressing the part 6 until the corrugations 4 approach against the interior part of the annular groove, formed by the edge or nerve of the main part 1. i
To extract the lid, an instrument 7 is used, as shown in Figure 1, or only a nail or other pointed means which can be used as a lever against the edge of the orifice.
As a result of this, the lid 2 remains perforated and cannot be used anew outside of the home, because it could not be used again as a cover for the receptacle.
The whole closing device which has been described can be completed, if desired,
through the addition of a capsule 8 with interior juttings 9 which are designed to combine with the groove 10 of the neck.
This capsule is placed by pushing said juttings through the separations 11 of the neck which are in combination with said groove and with the butts 12.
It is logical that also any other common capsular system can be adapted.
Having now described and specified the nature of my invention and the manner in which it can be executed, what I claim as my exclusive property and invention, is:
In a closure of the character described, the
combination with a receptacle mouth having a sealing chamber formed. by an annular groove, the outer portion thereof projecting under the lip of the mouth, of a sealing means for the chamber comprising a metal crown having its marginal portion bent downwardly at an angle to the perpendicular, then upwardly again to provide a recess for the elevated portion of the groove and terminating in a corrugated outwardly proj ecting skirt portion insertable under the lip of said mouth, the entire crown being disposed below the lip of the mouthwhen in closed position.
