IMPROVEMENT lN PIANO- FORTE PEDAL ATTACHMENTS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 162,443, dated April 20, 1875; application filed December 30, 1874.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, LoRRAIN O. Wnrrrue, of East Saginaw, in the county of Saginaw and State of Michigan, have invented an Improve ment in Pedal Attachments to Pianos, of which the following is a specification The nature of this invention relates to an improvement in an attachment to be secured to the pedals ofa piano, in such manner as to bring the pedal-levers within the reach of juvenile performers who are too short oflimb to reach them, as the instruments are ordinarily constructed; and to that end it consists in attaching to the foot of the pedal-harp a proper base, upon which is hinged a footrest, the toe of which is provided with a pendent lug, which lies upon the pedal-lever, as is more fully hereinafter set forth.

In the drawing, A represents the lower part of the harp of a piano, in which are pivoted the pedal-levers B. O is a base-block, surmounted with afoot-rest, D, hinged at its heel to said block, as at a. E is a rod passing longitudinally through the base 0, being provided with a bolt-head, b, at one end, while the opposite end is screw-threaded, to receive a clamp-nut, 13.
By the use of this device, the pedals of the instrument are brought Within easy control of the juvenile performer, while at the same time the proper position for an easy manipulation of the key-board can be retained.

The combination of the base-block O, the foot-rest D, pivoted thereto, the screwrod E, and clamp-nut F, all constructed and arranged substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
