This invention relates to improvements in sanitary aprons, the general object of the invention being to provide a body of cloth which is provided with a pocket for receiving a sheet of rubber so that the rubber can be renewed and the cloth washed when the apron becomes soiled.

A further object of the invention is to provide fastening means on the apron whereby it can be supported on the body of the user without the use of suspension garters.

This invention also consists in certain other features of construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, to be hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings and specifically pointed out in the appended claim.

In describing my invention in detail, reference will be had to the accompanying drawings wherein like characters denote like or corresponding parts throughout the several views, and in which Figure 1 is a perspective view of the improved apron.

Figure 3 is a view of the rubber member.

As shown in these views, the apron is formed of a member 1 of cloth, silk or other suitable material and a member 2 which is of less length than the member 1 and which is sewed to the member 1 at its top and its sides, a part of the bottom of the member 2 being free of the member 1 so as to leave an entrance 3 for the pocket formed by the two members. The free lower edge of the member 2 is out back on a curved line to facilitate entrance into the pocket. A row of buttonholes 4 is formed adjacent the top of the member 2 and two buttonholes 5 are formed in the lower part of the member 2, one adjacent each side edge thereof. A member 6 of rubber or the like, and of practically the same shape as the member 2 is adapted to be passed through the opening 3 into the pocket so as to provide an inner lining of rubber for the apron. A part of the lower end of the member 6 is exposed at the mouth of the pocket. A tape 7 is sewn or otherwise fastened to the top of the sheet 6 and this tape carries the buttons 8 which are adapted to be passed through the buttonholes 4 to support the sheet 2 from the pocket. portion of the sheet 6, and this'tape is fastened to the sheet at its center, as shown at 10, and at each end, as shown at 10. A button 11 is fastened to each end of the tape 9 and these buttons 11 are adapted to be passed through the buttonholes 5,

The apron may be bound with tape, as shown at 12, and both members 1 and 2, at the opening 3, may also be bound with tape. A waistband 13 is fastened to the top of member 1 and is adapted to be passed around the waist of the user to hold the upper end of the apron in place. An elastic tape 14 has loops 15 at its ends for engag ing the buttons 11 and a tape 16 has its end loops engaging this tape and the tape 13 so as to prevent the tape 14 from dropping below the knees of the wearer.

From the foregoing, it will be seen that I have provided a sanitary apron, the outer portions of which are formed of cloth or the like so that the parts which are most likely to be soiled can be washed after the rubber interior has been removed, it not being advisable to wash this rubber. The tape 14, when placed around the legs of the user, will hold the apron in extended position and prevent it from riding up the body, and by making this tape elastic, it will not interfere with the use of the legs in walking. This device will not only protect the clothing from perspiration and the like but it will prevent the dress from sticking too close to the rear portion of the body and it will also act to make dresses lightproof and prevent a view of the wearers limbs when standing before a light or the like with a thin dress on.

It is thought from the foregoing descriptlon that the advantages and novel features of my invention will be readily apparent.

I desire it to be understood that I may make changes in the construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, provided that such changes fall within the scope of the appended claim.

What I claim is v A sanitary apron comprising front and rear members fastened together at the top and sides to form a pocket, the front memher having its top spaced below the top of the rear member, portions of the bottom of the two members being free to form a mouth of the pocket and the free part of the bottom of the front member being cut back to facilitate entrance to the pocket, a sheet of 'for receiving the buttons, a tape extending across the rubber sheet achacent its lower end, a button at each end thereof, the from member having buttonholes for receiving the last mentioned buttons, an elastic tape engaging the last mentioned buttons, a Waistband connected With the top of the rear 10 member and a tape connecting the Waistband with the elastic tape.
