A. G. JACOBSON PRINTING PRESS REGISTER GUIDE MECHANISM Filed May 5, '1924 Patented Feb. 22, 1927.
U NIT E s T i rlazaz '7 ARTHUR G. JACOBSO-N', or CHICAGO, IILINoIs, ASSIGNOR To MIEHLE PRINTING PRESS & MANUFACTURING COMPANY, or onroaeo, ILLINOIS, A CORPORATION or ILLINOIS.
Application filed May 3,
This invention relates to a printing press, and more particularly to register guide mechanism therefor.
One object of the invention is to provide a simple and efficient register guide mechanism' whereby when a sheet is fed to the guide it will be prevented from rebounding therefrom, and whereby when the guidev 1s moved for permitting passage .of a sheet, the
means for preventing rebound also Will be moved out of engagement with the sheet.
Another. object is to provide a simple register guide arrangement in whlch the tension of the rebound means may be easily 1 varied.
These and other objects are accomplished by means of the arrangement disclosed on the accompanying sheet of drawings, in which the single figure is a fragmentary side elevation of a printing press embodying the invention.
It will be noted that the invention is illustrated in connection with a printing press having an impression cylinder 10 supported in a frame 11 in which a shaft 12 is rock ably mounted. Any suitable means may be used for rocking or oscillating said shaft. Secured to the shaft 12 is a bracket 13 to which is fastened a. front register guide 1 f having a downwardly extending finger 15 against which a'sheet of paper is fed and temporarily arrested for registering purposes. Sheet material which is fed down over a feed board 16 is guided to the register guide 15 by a curved member 17 which is secured to the horizontal portion 18 of the front guide in any suitable manner.
For the purpose of preventing a fed sheet from rebounding away from the register guide 15 after the sheet has been fed thereto, pressure means or a brush 19! is .pro-
' vided. This brush is mounted on the feed side of the register guide and is secured in a holder 20 extending obliquely away from the guide. The holder 20 in turn is adjust- PRINTING-BRIESS-REGISTER- GUIDE MECHANISM.

ing the brush in adjusted position. If it is desired to increase the pressure with which the brush 19 engages the fed sheet, the same may be done by screwing the machine screw 24 downwardly or further into the support and, on the other hand, if it is desired to release the pressure a given amount, same may bedone-by loosening the machine'screw 24 the. desired amount. It will also be noted that in this combination when the register guide is raised to permit thepassage thereunder of the registered sheet which has been gripped by the cylinder grippers, the brush 19 and also the guide means 17' are raised with the register guide 15 out of engagement with the sheet to permit its free passage. 1
I claim: 1. In a printing press, the combination of a register guide, and yieldable means yieldably adjustably mounted on said guide for and also being yieldably adjustably mount:
ed on said guide and movable therewith.
4:- In a printing press, the combination of a register guide, pressure means carried thereby for preventing rebound of a sheet fed to said guide, and 'yieldably mount-ed means for varying the amount of pressure.
5. In a printing press, the combination of a register guide, pressure means associated therewith for preventing rebound of a'sheet fed to said guide, a yieldable holder for said pressure means, and means for clamping said yieldable holder to said register guide for yieldably controlling the pressure ex erted by said pressure means.
6. In a printing press, the combination of v a register guide, pressure means associated therewith for-preventing rebound of a sheet fed to said guide, a resilient member in which said pressure means is supported and having a loop portion pressed into engagement with said register guide, and securing means on opposite sides of said loop portion for securing said resilient member with a Variable degree to said guide for varying the pressure with which said pressure member engages the fed'sheet. 1
Signed at Chicago, Illinois, this 8th day of April, 1924.
ARTHUR-G. JACOBSON.
