DELOSS A. DANFORTH, OF ELKHART, INDIANA, ASSIGNOR TO HIMSELF AND A. N. CHAMBERLAIN, OF SAME PLACE.
IMPROVEMENT IN DRIVE-WELL POINTS.
Specification formic g part of Letters Patent No. 161,491, dated March 30, 1875; application filed October 28, 1874.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, DELoss A. DANFORTH, of Elkhart, in the county of Elkhart and State of Indiana, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Drive-Well Points; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, ref erence being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, which form part of this specification.
My invention relates to such drive-well points as are provided with filters; and the nature of my invention consists in the manner of fastening the filter to the stock, as will be hereinafter more fully set forth.
In order to enable others skilled in the art to which my invention appertains, I will now proceed to-describe its construction and operation, referring to the annexed drawings, in which Figure 1 is a side view of a drive-well point with filter, embodying my invention. Fig.2 is a cross-section of the same through the line 00 m, Fig. 1; and Fig. 3 is an end view of the stock.
A represents the tubular stock of a drivewell point, provided with exterior screwthreads at both ends, for the attachment of the point B and coupling 0. The stock A is provided with a suitable number of countersunk holes, a a, the inner edges of which are made thin or sharp, to enable the wire-cloth to be soldered immediately around the mouth of the holes. Within the stock A is placed a sheet of wire-cloth, b, forming the filter, which extends the entire length of the stock. The ends of the wire'cloth or screen I) are turned over the ends of the stock, as shown in Fig. 3, and soldered thereto. The wire-screen is also soldered to the inner edges of the countersunk holes a a of the stock, making it perfectly secure, strong, and durable.
The point B is madein the usual shape, and its upper end is polygonal-shaped, as shown at B, so that it can be easily screwed and unscrewed with a common wrench.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The combination, with the stock A, having countersunk holes a a, of the interior wirescreen I), soldered to the edges of the holes a, and having its ends turned over and soldered to the ends of the stock, substantially as herein set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own, I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
DELOSS A. DANFORTH.
