can DEVICE. 7
Application led June 28, 1926, Serial No. 119,814, and 1nv Branca Iaroh 17,' 192,8.
This invention relates to' a controlling device operating by cam and lever for use upon machincs'for treating textile fabrics, for instance upon pleating machines, for the i control of the inclination of the knives orl which is mounted upon an eccentric portion of an axle pinand the said control lever is caused to bear upon the cam 'through the medium of an eccentric roller whose position is adjustable.
Due to the said device the amount of the oscillation of the lever produced by the rotation of the cam -in contact therewith can be verv readily modified, and for this. purpose it will be suilicient' to give .a suitable rotation to the eccentric parts of the said axle-pins, and the position of the lever mav further be changed without interfering with the rollersof the said cam; to this end it is simply' necessary to give a suitable rotation vtothe eccentric roller by means of which the lever is caused to bear upon the cam'.
Further characteristics'of the invention will be set forth in the following description. .In the appended drawings which are given solely by way of example: Fig. 1 is an elevation, with parts broken away, of a cam and lever device in accordance with the invention( Fig. 2 .isasection .on the line A--A of Fia'. 1. I
Fig. 3 is a partial view of the ca m showing an arrangement by which the axle pins of the rollers are held in a given angular position.
In the device illustrated. the cam consists of two discs 1 and 2 which are vsecured togather and on which are mounted a. pluvvrality of axle-pins 3 having an eccentric portion a. Rollers 4` are loosely mounted on the eccentricparts a and'form bosses which act during the rotation of the cam upon the controlling lever 5fwhich `is, pivoted at 6 and makes contact with the cam by means of the eccentric roller 7.
At one end of. each axle-pin 3 is'a crossi pin 8 coacting witha slot 9l in the disc 1,
Vwhich maintains the axle-pinand its eccentric'part in position, so that the roller may" u ixtrude' or notfrom the .peripheryof the change the position ofthe eccentric part a,`
the head 12 is pushed in such manner as to overcome the action ofthe spring 11, so that the axle-pin 3 will slide and the pin 8 will leave the slot 9; the pin 3 can .then be turned through 180 degrees, and them-by releasing the head12. the pin 8, when urged by the spring 11. will again enter the slot 9 and will hold the axle pin 3 in this new position.
To allow of pushing the axle pin 3 for dissol engaging the pin 8 from' the slot 9, a gap 13 v -proiectien between the maximum and minimum. an additional slot 10 is formed at f` right8 angles to the slot 9, coactng with the pm A v When employing the above described device for the control ofthe position of the knives of an ordinanv-pleating machine, the.
lever 5 being thenuconnected vwith the said.
knives, the axle-pins 3 are so turned that the corresponding rollers 4. assure the formation of a high pleat or'a low pleat, according as the lever -'during the rotation of the cam-meets or not with: aboss formed by a roller 4. which projects outwardlv due to `the position of the eccentric on which it is mounted: the knives are thus brought intoco'ntact withthe upper formation plate or with the-lower formation plate.' It .will be furtherenolted l that by changing .the position of thefyeccentricroller 7 so as. to'move the lever 5'towards or from the axis'of the cam, pleats of dierent nature may be obtained due to the change inthe position of the leverythe roller Z can be differently set while thema'chine is running,'without changingthe position of the cam rollers. Y
@the .case in which the said device is employed upon a, pleating machine comprising sections'nf formation plates which may cross .between Athe machine rollers, and when it is to operate the'knives' accord'- ing to'the line bisecting the angle between the formation plates, it will be sufficient to change the position of the eccentrlc roller 7 by p acing 1ts axle-pin in the intermediate position, so that the knives will take an inthe principle of the invention.- In like man-l ner, the said invention-is applicable to other types of machines, such as ruching, crimping goiering and like machines.
aving now described our invention, what we claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. Cam device comprising a disc,a number of axle pins rotatably and slidably sup- `ported by said disc near the periphery thereby said-leve'ljjwhile the others are likewise of,'an`eccentric part on each of said axlepins, a roller mounted loose on said eccentric part and means for maintaining each axle-pin in variousV angular positions for .which said rollers protrude to a variable amount from the periphery of the disc.
2. Cam device comprising a disc, a number of axle-pins rotatably and slidably supported by said disc near the periphery thereof, an eccentric part on each of said axlepins, a roller mounted loose on said eccentric part, a cross-pin provided on each axle-pin, slots in said disc and wherein said crossf pins are respectively adapted to engage and springs acting axially upon said axle pins and wherebysaid cross-pins are urged into said slots for holding said'axle-pins in position.
3. Cam device for the controlof a mechanism, comprising.. a disc, a- 'rocking lever adapted to cooperate with said disc and to be operatively connected with said l'mechanism to .be controlled anumber of axle-pins one of which is'fiqfaably and slidably supported supported by said disc near the periphery thereof, an eccentric part on each of all said axle-pins, a roller mounted loose on said eccentric part, the roller thus supported by said lever being adapted to engage the rollcrs supported byusaid disc and means formaintaining each axle-pin in various angular positionsl for which said rollers protrude to a variable amount from the periphery of said disc and the edge of said lever.
4. Cam device for the control of a mechanism, comprising a disc, a rocking lever adapted to cooperate with said disc and to be operatively connected with said mechanism to be controlled, a number of axle-pins one of which is rotatably and slidably supported' by said lever while the others are like-wise supported by said disc near the periphery thereof, an eccentric part on each of all said axle-pins, a roller mounted loose on said eccentric part, the roller thus supported by said lever being adapted to engage the rollers supported by said disc, a cross 1n provided on each axle-pin, slots in said isc and lever and wherein said cross-pins are respectively adapted to engage and springs acting axially upon said axle pins and whereby said cross-pins are urged into said slots forholding said axle-pins in position.
-5. In a cam device as claimed in claim 3, the further feature residing in that the roller supported by said lever is adapted to assume intermediate angular positions between the positions of maximum and minimum projection from the edge 'of said lever.
6. In a 'cam' device as claimed in claim 4 the further feature residing in that the lever is provided with a plurality of slots at a predetermined angle with each other for the cross-pin of the axle-pin of the roller supported bysaid lever.
1 In testimony whereof we have signed our names to this specification.
