UNITED STATES PATENT l ETHQE ADOLPH SOHWARZ, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
IMPROVEMENT IN TRAVELING-CAPS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 160,844, dated March 16, 1875 application filed August 4, 1873.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, ADOLPH SGHWARZ, of the city, county, and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Traveling-Cap, of which the following is a specification:
In the accompanying drawing, Figures 1 and 2 represent perspective views of myimproved reversible traveling-cap, as applied in difierent shapes to the head.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
My invention relates to an improvement in reversible traveling-caps, which may be arranged in a variety of different forms, according to the fancy of the wearer; and consists in the introduction of a connectin g-piece across the opening for the face, by which the eyes and mouth are left uncovered, but the nose and checks protected, producing thereby a more complete cap.
Hitherto these traveling-caps, with a full face opening in the cape part, which appeared when this part was drawn down from its folded position around the body of the cap, and exposed thereby the whole face to the cold, wind, and rain, or other inconveniences of the weather. This is obviated in a great measure by my nose-band, which leaves the mouth and the lower part of the nose free for breathing, and an opening for the eyes.
In the drawing, A represents the body of the cap, with a peak, B, attached, which may be turned up or down, as desired. 0 is the cape, which is secured around the lower circumference of body A, and may be folded up, as indicated in Fig. 1, or arranged in any other position, as fancy may dictate. The front part of the cape (J is provided below peak B with horizontal openings at for the eyes and mouth, which are separated by a cross-band or faceprotecting piece, D, as shown in Fig. 2. This covers fully the cheeks and nose, and makes the cap in every respect more convenient and serviceable, without interfering at all with the different uses to which the cap has hitherto been applied.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Pat ent As an improvement in traveling-caps, the cross-band or face-protector D of the cape (J, which leaves narrow openings at for the eyes and mouth, substantially as and for the purposes described.
ADOLPH SGHWARZ.
