Be it known that 1, Louis NEIIEMLls, of the city, county, and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Far and Mouth Protectors, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to new and useful improvements in that class of articles used for covering the cars and other parts of the face in cold weather, for the purpose of protecting them.

The object of my invention is to provide a new and improved face-muff of simple construct-ion, which may be adjusted to cover the ears, cheeks, and bottom part of the chin only, but may also be adjusted to cover the front of the chin and the mouth.

The invention consists in a band having its ends connected by an elastic strip,-to which band a folding piece is fastened at the bottom front edge, as will be more fully described hereinafter, and finally be pointed out in the claim.

In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a side view of my improved face-muff, show ing the same adjusted for covering the mouth. Fig. 2 is a side view of the same, showing the same with month-flap folded. Fig. 3 isaperspective view of my improved facemuff. Fig. 4 is a cross-sectional view on line as m, Fig. 3, on an enlarged scale.

To the bottom front edge of the band A the mouthflap O, which may be padded in the same manner as the band A, is stitched in such a manner as to permit of folding said mouth-flap on the inner side of the band A, as shown in Figs. 3 and at. The ends of the mouth-flap are slightly tapered or rounded off, as shown. The band A is passed under the chin and placed against the sides of the head, so that its ends cover the ears, the parts being held in place by the elastic piece B, which passes over the top of the head and draws the band A under the chin, checks, and cars. In extremely cold or windy weather, when it is desirable to have the mouth protected, the mouth flap O is turned up, as shown in Fig. 1, so that its free edge will be a short distance below the nose, thus completely covering the mouth and lower parts of the face without interfering with breathing and conversing.

I'Iavingthus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent An ear and mouth protector consisting of a band, an elastic piece connecting the ends of said band, and a moutlrflap fastened to the front edge of the band and adapted to be folded on the inside of the same, substantially as herein shown and described.
