' ANDREW FEEDER-fonemi, or CHICAGO, ILLINors.
Applicationl filed May 1,
This invention relates to tobacco pouchesl and others that Will appear as the nature of the invention is better understood, the saine consists in the novelconstruction, combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter increl fully described, illustrated in the accompanyino; drawing, and pointed out in the appended claim. f
In the drawing forming a part of thisv application and in which like designating characters refer to. corresponding parts throughout the several views,. v
Fig. 1 is a view, partly in elevation and partly in cross-section, showing the position of the device when the pipe is about to be filled with tobacco; Y
Fig. 2 is a cross-sectional view taken on line 2-2 of Fig. 1; and
Fig. 3 yis a cross-sectional view taken on line 3 3 of F ig. 1. Y
The invention embodies a pouch 10 provided with flap 11 overlying the mouth of the pouch throughl which the tobacco is supplied thereto. The flap isprovided with conventional clasp buttons 12 for securing the flap to the pouch. At the opposite end the pouch is provided with metallic cylinder 13 having at each of its ends anannular rim 14 which has a central annular groove 15 for receiving the adjacent portion of pouch,
which arrangement prevents the longitudinal shifting of the cylinder 13 in respectof pouch l0. Near one of its ends cylinder 13 1s provided at its upper portion with an Y opening 16 through which tobacco is permitted to enter cylinder 13 from pouch 10.
y Said cylinder 13 is further provided with an annularV plate 17 which is fitted over the upooMBINnD froBAoco rouen Aun' rir'n-rrnnrive DEVICE. l'
192e. seriali ne. Yitalian.
longitudinallythereof the cylinder 1.3 is provided withanoblong slot 18 for permittingthe sliding movement of bolt 19. The head 20 of bolt y19 engages the ladjacentl edges ofV cylinder 13andprevents the upward movement of bolt 19. Said bolt 19 further passes through an aperture made in the plate 17. The upper end of said bolt 19 is threaded for receiving nut 21 by means of which `plate 17 is held in position inrespect of cylin- 'p der 13. y i
From the hereinabove description it will be apparent that on loosening nut^21 plate V17 may belongitudinally shifted upon cyl- -inder 13, slot 18 providing the guiding channel for bolt 19. It is further apparent that on shifting plate 17 toward the opening 16 f said opening is made smaller by virtue o-f plate 17 which overlies part of said opening and prevents tobacco from falling to cylinder 13 through the portionwhich is covered by plate17.
rlhe device further embodies plunger cyl-Y annular flange 23. VThe end of cylinder 13 v adjacent opening 16 is provided with a concentric flange 24 which cooperates with flange 23 of plunger cylinder 22 for preventing the withdrawal of said plunger cylinder 22 from cylinder A13, as is apparent from Fig. 1. Plunger cylinder 22 at its outer yend is provided with'closure 25 through which matches V26 are supplied or withdrawn from said plunger cylinder 22.
l/Vhen the device is in an inoperative tion plunger cylinder 22 normally rests within cylinder 13 and entirely fills the said cylinder and by its peripheryy blocks opening 16 preventing the tobacco from entering cylinder 13. n withdrawing plunger cylinder 22 from cylinder 13, the position illustrated on Fig. 1, tobacco is permitted to enter cylposiinder 13 through opening 16. When a poris of a round formation snugly yfitting theA periphery of said cylinder as clearly seen on Figs. 2 and 3. In order to prevent anyrotary shifting movement of cylinder 13 in respect of the enveloping end of pouch 10 a tubular clamp 28 is fitted over the pouch fabric and around the cylinder 13.
While there is described herein a preferred embodiment of thepresent invention it is nevertheless to be understood that minor changes may be made therein Without departing fromthe spirit and scope or the inveiition as claimed.
What l claim as new is: v
" The combination with a tobacco pouch, of
a cylinder removably carried inthe pouch' and having substantially the saine length as the Width oi' the pouch thereby to prevent distortion of the pouch, seid cylinder having an opening near one oi its ends permitting entrance .of tobacco thereto fromthe pouch, andanother opening permitting removel of tobacco from the cylinder, a closure member for the entrance opening accessible Ving the saine cross-sectional dimensions throughout its length, and fitting over that portion of the pouch engaging thecylinder and extending substantially 'fro-in end to endof the cylinder for maintaining said cylin d r in stationr aosition With res Dect to the pouch Withoutl distorting the pouch.
ln testimony whereof l affix iny signature.
ANDREW FREDERCKSON'.
