stains ARKER.
Application filed January The object 01' this invention is to devise a novel construction and arrangement Or a skirt marker by theuse of which a skirt, dress or coat can have the bottom uniform by being marked or pinned, so that it will be the desired distance from the ground.
Another "object in view is to devise a novel skirt marker which can be economically manufactured and which can be used by the ordinary housewife.
l i ith the above and other objects in view, as will hereinafter more clearly appea our invention comprehends a novel construction and arrangement of a skirt marker.
It further comprehends a novel skirt marker having a plurality of standards one o't which is graduated. One of sai standards carries a curved back plate whica is vertically adjustable on i-., and the ot of said standards carries a. fitting on wl. a curved clamping bar is laterall adjusv able and between said bar and plate the goods of the skirt, dress or coat are clamped. The clamping bar serves as a support for the crayon or pencil which is used to mark the skirt, coat or dress.
()ther novel features of con advantage will hereinafter appear inthe detailed description a appended claims.
F or the purpose of illustrating the invention, we have shown in the accompany ng drawing a typical embodiment of it, which, in practice, will give reliable and satisfactory results. It is, however, to be understood that this embodiment is typic-al or and that the various instrumentalities or which our invention consists can be vari ously arranged and organized, and the invention is not, therefore, limited to the precise arrangement and organization 01" these instrumentalities as herein set forth;
Figure l is a perspective view of skirt marker embodying our invention.
Figure 2 is a top plan view.
Similar numerals of reference indicate corresponding parts.
Referring to the drawings l designates a skirt marker embodying our invention. The skirt marker is provided with a base 2, from which rise the posts or standards 3 and l, respectively.
The standard 4 is provided with a vertically extending groove 5, and is adapted to receive a collar 6, which is secured in its 7, 1926. Serial No. 79309.
vertically adjusted position by means of a set screw 7 which is adapted to enter thegroove 5, so that the backing plate 8, secured the forward end of which passes into the groove 9.
The collar 10 has extending from it a tubular arm 12 into which extends a post 13, which is fixed to a clamping bar 14. The tubular arm 12 is slotted as at 15 to receive a bar 16 which closely fits the slot and forms a grasping handle. The post 3 has the graduations 17 to accurately indicate the height to which the clamping bar 14 has been raised.
In the operation the back plate 8 and clamping bar 1% are adjusted to the desired height on their standards and the set screws are tightened. The skirt, dress or coat is inserted between the back plate and the clamping bar, and the clamping bar is moved forwardly to clamp the goods.
The goods are pinned along the top of the clamping bar, or a mark is made with a crayon or pencil by drawing it along the clamping bar.
The clamping bar 14 is now moved rearwardly, the person to be fitted changes her position, and the clamping bar 14 is again moved forwardly and the proper indications made on the skirt, dress or coat. I
The operation is continued until the entire bottom portion of the skirt, dress or coat is marked.
Special attention is directed to the ad justable feature or the clamping bar, since it can be adjusted so that it will take in fabric or" thick material such as is used in womens coats, and can also be used for the sheerest kind of dress goods.
The backing plate forms an abutment for marking, and the clamping bar defines an accurate line along which the mark can be made.
Due to the provisions or" the vertical slots in the standards, the back plate and clamping bar are always retained in the proper relationship to each other.
Our present construction of skirt marker can be very economically manufactured,
ith a ver- 1 and the adjustments and the manner in which it is used are self evident from the construction.
Having thus described our invention what We claim as new and desire to secure 2. In a skirt marker, a base, a pair of standards, one of which is graduated, fixed to said base, said standards each having vertical aligning slots, a curved plate, a collar in one 01" said standards adapted to enter the slot in said first named standards and secure said plate in aligned position, a fitting having a laterally extending slotted arm on the other of said standards, a set screw to enterthe slot of the second standard to secure the'fitting in aligned position, a clamping bar having a post adjustable on said arm, and a grasping handle extending through said slotand secured to said post.
