Another object of the invention is to provide a post of this kind with means whereby the fence fabric or the like may be readily stretched thereto or disconnected therefrom whereby the fabric or the like may be readily taken down or replaced in the event pas- Sage is desired for threshing machines and' other1 farm machinery too wide for the ordi` nary gate. i

rl`he invention consists in the details of construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts of my improved fence post whereby certain important advantages are attained and the device rendered simpler, less expensive and other wise more convenient and advantageous for usej as will be hereinafter more fully set forth. The post P adjacent to its upper end and to the foundation l is provided with out`` standing and. oppositelyl disposed arms 2 which may be integrally formed with the post P or may comprise separate casting disposed through the `post as illustrated in the flexible members.

The portion of the applied bar 3 above the upper arm 2 has disposed therethrough the angularly related ppenings 5 to provide means whereby a turning rod or kindred implement may `be en-- gagedwith thebar when it is desired to rotate the same, l `The lower portion of the bar or thatportion received within the pocket or recess lg'is provided therearound with circumferentially spaced openings 6 adapted to register 'with an opening 7 in the lowerv arin 2 in communication with the pocket or be received within the opening 7 and a reglistering opening 6 to hold or lock the bar against rotation in either direction.

In practice, a clamp C of any desired type is operatively engaged with the wire fabric F and said clamp is operatively en gaged with a bar 3 by the chains 10 or other y Upon rotation of the bar 3 said flexible members l0 will wind therearound. resulting in sufficient pull being imposed upon the fabric F through the medium of the clamp C to take up substantially all of the slack in the fabric. The fabric is then attached directly to the bar 3 by the clamp C and upon continued rotation of the bar 3 the fabric is properly tightened, after which ythe bar .3 is held against retrograde rotation under the `tension of the fabric by proper application of the pin 8.
