To the attainment of the foregoing, the
invention consists in the improvement as hereinafter described and definitely'claimed.

Similar numerals designate corresponding parts in Figures 1 and 2 to which ref- 3 erence will first be made.
Among other elements the device shown in Figures 1 and 2 comprises a frame 1 be fixed at 2 to a work bench 3 and provided at 4 with a pedestal. The device also comprises a plunger 5 guided in the frame 1 and having ahead 6, the said plunger being associated with a coiled spring 7 that is interposed between the frame 1 and the head 6 and is adapted to return the plunger 2 and yieldingly maintain the same in the raised position illustrated.
Arranged in the lower portion of the frame 1 is a stripping member 8 having a semi-circular beveled cutter 9.
The plunger 5 is provided at 10 with a stripping member complementary to the member 8 and provided with a semicircular and beveled cutter 11.
Fixed on the pedestal 4 and arranged in coincidence with the opening between the cutters 9 and 11 when the plunger 5 is depressed is a cross-sectional oval shaped tapered tubular guide 42 through which an insulated wire to be stripped is passed.
Adjustably connected at 12 to the base of the frame '1 is a gauge 13 one arm of which is sheathed in the said frame base as designated by 14, in Figure 2. The said gauge 14 enables the operator of the device to readily determine the extent to which an insulated wire will be stripped.
In the practical use of the device described an insulated wire is introduced through the guide 49 and seated in-the cutter 9 and arranged so that its end brings up against the upstanding arm of the gauge 13. The plunger 5 is then depressed until it brings up against the stop 15 of the frame 1, and then when the wire is drawn rearwardly while the plunger 5 is held in depressed position, the portion of wire between the cutters 9 and 11 and the gauge 13 will be quickly and thoroughly stripped of insulation, and this without injury ,to the wire, the stop 15 by limiting the movement of the plunger 5 precluding any reduction of or injury to the wire.
As shown, the cutters 9 and 10 are provided with superimposed splitting blades 15" projecting from the central portions of the cutters and the blades 15* are adapted to split the insulation that is to be removed by the cutters.
Manifestly when deemed expedient the cutters shown in Figures 1} and 2 may be equipped with the blades 15 as shown or they may be dispensed with if desired.
I have specifically described the preferred embodiments of my invention in order to impart an exact understanding of the same. I do not desire, however, to be understood as'confining myself to the construction disclosed inasmuch as my invention is defined by my appended claim within the scope of which changes may be made without departure from my invention.
Having described my invention, what I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent, -1s:-
' A wire stripping device comprising a frame, a member carried by the frame and having an upwardly directed semi-circular cutter, a cross-sectional oval shaped tapered tubular guide on the frame alii'ied with said cutter, a gauge carried -by the frame and arranged at the opposite side of the cutter to said guide, a plunger guided in the'frame,
a spring for retracting said plunger, and a member carried by the plunger and havlng a semi-circular'cutter complementary to the first-named cutterv and superimposed splitting blades associated with said cutter.
