Abstract
722,856. Stripping conductors. HALEY, N. E. J. Jan. 7, 1954 [Oct. 7, 1952], No. 25047/52. Class 36. A wire stripper comprises handles A, B, pivoted at 3 and which may be pressed together against spring 4, and cutters 1, 2 each having holes 7, 10 which have cutting edges and are normally aligned, cutter 1 being rigidly attached to handle A and cutter 2 being pivoted at 8 to handle B and slidable on cutter 1, a stop 13 being provided to limit the pivoting of the cutter 2 and cause the cutters to move apart under continued pressure on the handles. The holes 7, 10 may be of keyhole shape, hole 7 having the narrow part uppermost and hole 10 the narrow part downwards, the shoulders of the holes being sharpened. The lower end of cutter 2 may be linked to pivot 3 by a tension spring 12 which normally holds the cutters 1, 2 in contact. Insulated wire is threaded through holes 7, 10 and handles A, B pressed together to side cutter 2 along cutter 1 and cause the sharp edges of the holes to sever the insulation, and then to move the cutters apart and slide the severed insulation along the wire.
