This-invention relates to improvements in sprinkler or shower heads and more particularly to means for fastening the parts thereof together.

These sprinkler heads are usually made in two parts, namely, a head and a cap fitted thereto. Heretofore it has been the practice to thread the adjacent edges of the parts and to screw the cap to the head. In the course of time this screwthread connection between the parts of the sprinkler head limes up so that the cap is unscrewed with considerable diiiiculty. To facilitate removal of the cap in sprinkler heads of the old construction, the cap has in some instances been provided with lugs at the edge thereof to receive the blows from a hammer or other tool in unscrewing the cap from the head. This practice often results in damage to the sprinkler head and the pipes connected thereto, and has been found to be unsatisfactory for the reason that a hammer or like tool is necessary to remove the cap.

One of the objects of the present invention is to provide improved means for fastening the parts of a sprinkler head together which will permit ready removal or separation of the parts despite liming up of the screw threads.

Another object of the invention is to provide improved means for fastening the parts of a sprinkler head together providing a water-tight joint between the same without the use of a direct connection between the parts.

Another object is to provide improved fastening means for the parts of a fountain head which may be readily applied and which presents a neat appearance.

Another object is to provide a fountain head with improved fastening means there for and indexing means whereby the parts to be fastened may be placed in proper relative position.

Other objects and advantages will hereinafter appear.

For the purpose. of illustrating the invention, an embodiment thereof is shown in the drawings, in which Figure 1 is a side elevation. partly in section;

Fig. 2 is a plan view;

Fig. 3 is a top plan view of the cap; and

Fig. 4 is a detail side elevation.

The sprinkler head comprises a head 1 and a cap 2 provided with a flange?) which fits over the edge of the head as shown in Fig. 1. The head 1 is provided with depressions 4- having openings 5 therethrough to receive the fastening means or bolts 6. The bolts 6 are threaded into bosses 7 with which cap 2 is provided, the bosses being arranged to register with openings 5. A washer 8 may be fitted upon each bolt 6 to insure a watertight joint between the head 9 of the bolt and its seat. A cotter pin 10 may be inserted through. an opening 11 in each bolt to limit upward movement thereof through opening 5 and to prevent the bolts from being lost when cap 2 is not in position.

The indexing means for properly positioning head 1 and cap 2 with respect to each other may comprise a pin 12 fastened in any suitable way to the lower edge of head 1 and arranged to fit within a suitable notch or recess 13 in flange 8 when cap 2 is in such position with respect to head 1 that bosses register with openings 5 in the depressions a. A washer 1a is fitted between cap 2 and the edges of the head to insure a water-tight connection between these parts.

In fastening the two parts of the sprinkler head together, cap 2 is fitted to head 1 and adjusted so that pin 12 fits within notch or recess 13. Bosses 2' will then register with openings 5 to permit bolts 6 to be screwed into place as shown in 1, to draw and hold head 1 and cap 2 tightly together without the use of a screw thread connection between the adjacent edges of the head and cap.

Cap 2 is provided with the usual apertures 15 to permit the water to be discharged through the sprinkler head in the form of a spray. The improved fastening means is particularly useful for fastening together the parts of sprinkler heads such as are used for bath showers and the like, but of course may be used on sprinkler heads of various other types.

Various changes in the size, shape and arrangement of the parts may be adopted without departing from the spirit of the invention or the scope of the claims.

The invention claimed is 1. A device of the character described comprising a head provided with openings, a cap adapted to fit said head and provided with threaded bosses arranged to register with said openings upon rotary movement of said cap to a given position with respect to said head, the adjacent edges of said cap and said head being provided with means for indicating when said cap is in said position, and bolts adapted to be inserted through said openings and to be threaded into said bosses to hold said head and said cap in assembled relation.

2. A device of the character described comprising a head provided with openings, a cap adapted to fit said head and provided with threaded bosses arranged to register with said openings upon rotary movement of said cap to a given position with respect to said head, a pin fixed in said head at the edge thereof, said cap being provided with a recess arranged to receive said pin when said cap is in said position, and bolts adapted to be inserted through said openings and to be threaded into said bosses to hold said head and said cap in assembled relation.
