Patented June 22, 1926.
UITED STATES JOHN w. WILSON, or WALLA WALLA, WASH NGTON.
PENCIL HOLDER.
Application filed July 8,
This invention relates to improvements in pencil holders and contemplates the provision of a plate having a plurality of vertically disposed semi-circular grooves provided therein and which has extending through the side edges of the grooves or partitions therebet-ween a relatively wide strip of elastic or rubber band which will hold the pencils withinthe grooves when so inserted therebetween.
Another object of my invention is the provision of the usual and conventional form of safety pin fasteners and spring clips upon the ends and rear sides, each respective securing means is adapted for ladies and mens clothing. I
With the above and other objects in view, the invention further includes the following novel features and details of construction, to be hereinafter more fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawing and pointed out in the appended claims.
In the drawing I Figure 1 is a front elevation of a portion of a mans vest showing the manner in which my invention may be applied thereto.
Figure 2 is a front elevation of my invention,
Figure 3 is a side elevation thereof.
Figure 4 is a transverse section taken on line l-l of Figure 2.
Figure 5 is a. detail perspective of a modified form of my invention.
Figure 6 is a detail perspective of=1ny preferred form.
Referring to the drawing in detail, wherein like characters of reference denote corresponding parts, the reference character 10 indicates a body of relatively flat configuration and which may be formed of any suit able light material such as cardboard, aluminum etc. and which includes therein a plurality of vertically disposed grooves 11 therein and providing partition walls 12 A pair of elastic or rubber bands 13 extend through correspondingly shaped openings provided in the partitions 12 and adjacent the outer edges thereof and which are adapted to hold pencils 14c and the like within thegroovesll when the outer sides of the pencils 14 are engaged by the elastic or rubber bands 13.
In Figures 3, 4c, and 6 ofthe drawing I have illustrated a locking means for the elastic or rubber bands 13 upon the rear walls of 1925. 7 Serial No. eases.
therein and mounted for reciprocatory movement within these vertically disposed slots are the outwardly and oppositely extending ends 12 of relatively flat split casings 13 Pivotally mounted as at 14 to the rear side of the plates 10 and directly below the vertically disposed slots 11 are arcuate shaped locking plates 15 which are so mounted as to have their arcuate shaped portions lying flush with the rear sides of the plates 10 in order that the respective ends of the elastic or rubber bands 13 are held rigidly therebetween. It is further to be noted that when the casings 13 receive the upper free ends of the locking plates 15 that this elastic band will be rigidly held against accidental displacement.
Extending upwardly from the rear side and upper edge of the body 10 and then bent upon itself and extending downwardly upon the rear side thereof is a flange 15 having secured thereto a pair of spring clips which normally have their lower ends tensioned against the rear sides of the body 10. These clips 16 are adapted to receive therebetween the upper edge 17 of a pocket as shown formed in the vest 18 as clearly illustrated in Figure 1 of the drawing and in so doing the body 10 is held rigidly in place within the occupants vest body.
In Figure 50f the drawing 1 have illus trated a modlhed form of my invention which has especial. adaption to be fitted provide a body 10 having grooves 11 upon one face thereof and defining partitions 12 therebetween and which partitions have extending transversely therethrough and adjacent the outer edges thereof an elastic or rubber band 13 while the only diiference 1. upon a ladys shirt wa st and in so dolng I in this form of the invention than that as I ends of the grooves 11 and the partitions 12, is a plate or strip 12 which may be constructed of any suitable material, and in this instance may be formed integrally and bent outwardly from the lower end thereof, adhered or otherwise secured thereon as a separate part. As noted from the showing; and description, this plate orstrip 12 is adapted to hold or support thereon, either ends of a plurality of pencils or writing implements as may be arranged within the grooves 11 to prevent their slipping downwardly within the users pocket.
The invention is susceptible of various changes in its form, proportions and minor details of construction, and the, right is herein reserved to make such changes as properly fall within the scope of. the appended olaims.
Having described my invention what is claimed is 1. A pencil holder of the character described comprising a body havingplurality oi seini-circular vertically disposed channels provided therein and defining par-. titions therebetween, an elastic band extending transversely of the body and within a plurality of correspondingly shaped openings provided adjacent the enter edges of the partitions, and spring clips arranged upon the opposite side edges of the body for securing the respective ends of the bani thereto where y pencils and the like may be retained within the channels.-
A pencil holder of the character described, comprising a body having a plurality of vertically disposed sen1i-circular channels therein, an elastic band extending transversely of the body and extending through the partitions adjacent the outer edges thereof and adaptedrto rigidly hold pencils and the like when so inserted within the vertically disposed grooves PTO? vided in the body, vand a transversely disture.
posed plateseouredto the lower ends of the channels and partitions.
3. A pencil holder of the character described, con'iprising a body having a pluralityof vertically disposedsemi-circular channels therein, an elastic band extending transversely of the body and extending through the partitions adjacent the outer edges thereof and adapted to rigidly, hold pencils and the like when so inserted within the vertically disposed groo-vesprovided in the body, a transversely disposed plate secured to the lower en'ds oil the channels and partitions to prevent the lower ends of the articles from becoming accidentally dis-- placed, a pair of casings'arranged upon the rear sides of the body within slotted portions provided therein and a pair of locking plates included upon the body and having their upper ends received within the easing for holding the elastic band thereon.-
4. A I pencil holder of the character described comprising a body having a pinrality ct senii-cireular vertically dis iosed channels provided therein and defining partitions therebetween, an elastic band'extending transversely of the body and Within a pluralityot correspondingly shaped openings provided adjacent the outer edges-of the partitions, spring clips arranged upon the opposite side edges-of the body, a pair of spaced parallel casings mounted for re ciprocatory movement upon rear sides of the body, and a pair of arcuate shaped plates pivota-lly associated to the. rear side ofthebody and having their upper. ends received in the casings for holding the elastic hand against accidental displacement upon the body. i
In testimony whereof I affix my signa- JOHN W. WVILSON,
