This invention pertains to sash guides,
. and has for its object the provision of a guide in the form of 'a box-like rib having spring separated side walls .which are. adapted to be embraced Ibetween the side walls of a groove` in-the stile of a sash.
The guide of the invention is light, rigid and durable in construction, is inexpensive to manufacture, may be readily 4attached to or removed from the jamb of -a window, and has vmany other good features which those skilled in the art will appreciate.
Two slightly different structural embodiments of the invention are presented in the accompanying drawing and following 4description for the purpose of eXempliicat-ion, but the invention is of course susceptible'of application in other variously modified em bodiments coming equally Within the spirit of the invention as the same is defined in the appended claims.

Referring in detail to the drawing, and particularly toFigs. 1, 2, 3 and 4 thereof, onewill. observe that the guidel of the invention is ixedly attached to the j amb 10 of an associated window, and is slidably embraced between the side walls 11 of a guide groove in the stile 12 of an associated sash.
The guide consists of a rigid angle strip 13 which is attached to the jamb 10 by means of a number of machine screws 14, a second rigid angle strip 15 of smaller size which is slidably secured to the strip 13 by means of a number of pin and slot connections 16 between the lapped flanges 17 and 18 of the strips, and a number of bowed leaf springs 19 carried by oneof thestrips and bearing against the other to separate the flanges 20 and 21 of the strips and cause the same to expand against the side walls 11 of the stile 12. Suitable spacing sleeves 22 arefpositioned about the screws 14 between the `flange 17 of the strip 13 and the jamb 10 to position the vstrip 13 in proper relation to the jamb, and the flange 18 of the strip 15 may be cut away at 23 adjacent the sleeve 22 to prevent the sleeves from interfering with vthe lateral movement of the strip- 15 relative to the strip 13.
The construction above described presents a box-like rib which is contained inconspicuously within the groove in the stile of the associated sash and is provided at its opposite si-des with two spring separated sashengaging portions for contiguous weatherprooing engagement with the sash throughout the vertical extent of the latter.
In Figs. 5 and 6 of the drawing is shown another form of the guide Awhich differs4 from the form above described only in that a number of coil springs 24 are substituted for the bowed springs 19.
I claim: 1. The combination with a sash having a guide groove in one edge thereof, of a sash guide, comprising two associated strips having-two sash-engaging portions on the opposite sidesthereof which extend the full height I'of the sash and together constitute a rib for reception in the groove of the sash, and spring means acting between the strips to separate the sash-engaging portions, oneof the strips being adapted to be fixedly attached to a window jamb.
2. A ide comprising a strip adapted to be fixe y attached to a window jamb, a second strip arranged in laterally shiftable relation to the first strip, two sash-engaging portions of substantially` equal length ori opposite sides of the strips, and spring means acting between the strips to separate the sash-engaging portions.
3. 4. A guide, comprising a strip adapted to be fixedly attached to a window jamb, al second strip carried by the first strip in laterally shiftable relation thereto, two sash-enlength on opposite sides of the strips, and spring means carried by one of the strips and acting against the other to separate the sash-engaging portions.y
5. A' guide, comprising an angle strip adapted to be fixedly attached to a window jamb with one flange of the strip perpendicular to the jamb'to engage with the'sash and the other flange in parallel relation to the jamb, a second angle strip arranged with one flange of the strip perpendicular to the jamb to engage with the sash and the other flange in lapped relation to that offthe first strip, and spring means acting between the sash-engaging flanges of the strips to separate the same a limited distance.
6. A guide, comprising an angle strip adapted to be fixedly attached to a window jamb with one flange of the strip perpendicularly abutting the jamb to engage with the sash and the other flange 1n spaced t parallel relation to the jamb, a second angle strip carried by the first strip with one flange of the strip perpendicular to theijamb to engage with the sash and the other flange in lapped relation to that of the first strip,.
